The bassman and his Yamaha!
To all Nick Fyffe fans...check this!!!
Wow, what a ...... bassguitar
Where are the specialists? Is this Yamaha TRB 3PJJB a good instrument?
I need to know, because I want to buy one, but still don't know which one will fit me!
A family member of mine has good connections to Yamaha, so that I could get it a little bit cheaper.

Yamaha instruments......
As a part time bassist/guitarist/saxophonist, I recommend Yamaha instruments highly. Even better if you can get a discount.......!

The Yamaha-Music website promotes Nick Fyffe and Yamaha basses.
http://www.yamaha-music.co.uk/insession/bass/index.html
You can find some quotes of the man in the text...
Quote: |
Nick Fyffe, bass player for Jamiroquai, is one of many great players who have fallen in love with Yamaha basses. He recounts his first experience with the instruments...
"For [A Funk Odyssey], Yamaha sent down some basses which sat in the corner for a while and I hadn't really considered trying one. But our producer, Rick Pope, said why not give them a go, so I reluctantly tried the new TRB5PIICBV through-neck. I loved it straight away; it was really comfortable and sounded wicked so we recorded a track that night with it. Everyone in the band said,'that sounds great, what is it?' So I've stuck with it. I don't usually like modern basses because they don't have a warmth and roundness but you can get that with the Yamaha."
"For the tour I'll take out one TRB5PIICBV and a spare. I've also got a Yamaha acoustic [BEX4C], which I'll use live, and I had a Yamaha prototype which I used on Love Foolosophy. I liked it so much I asked if I could keep it. It's like a Nathan East model and it looks lovely!"

...hm... I still haven't got a bass. After this advertising, I think I'll need a Yamaha!

The Yamaha is a good instrument,but .....
I am a bassist since 1989 and got to know Jamiroquai in 1993 since their video "Too young to die" came out on MTV. I instantly fell in love with the sound and lines of Stu, so I decided to buy a brandnew Warwick Streamer Stage 1 in 1994. It was my best decision in buying an insturment and brouht me a huge step forward. Not only the earthy tone but also the feel of playing gets u into the groove, although it requires some hand-power to operate it smoothly and slapping is easier on moost other basses....
Since then I learned probably all songs of the first 4 albums and used to play them with my band on gigs in Bavaria. Once we made a crowd of 2000 feelling good with "Stillness in time" at an open air and man that is one of the best memories i got in my musical life ....As an amp is use an Hartke 2x10" with 15" cabinet that gives that hard funky edge in upper-mids and that up-the-front sound....Strings are Elite ....
sicne 3 years I now playi n a Dr&Bass/New Jazz combo with our own material, but from time to time we jam out some good old "Cosmic girl" vibes, for example ...Our keyboarder loves Toby and that is a great oopportunity for me to really try to get it going in rehearshal breaks ...
Btw. if u like to visit us, u can do it at our website : www.calophainsloft.de.vu (not quite ready yet but some stuff there), the intro loop gives u an impression of our current working...
So ppl, feel free to write me at gerri1@gmx.de if u know gig places or stuff, gotta go now, keep it funky !!! :D

interesting story...I'm impressed
when you played stillness in time in front of 2000 ppl, was it part of normal gig, or was it part of a tribute/covers gig? _________________

just normal, we played our programs of 60% own songs and 40% covers like Turn out the Light, Stillness in time, Revolution 1993 (yes we had a flute player, she was awesome ) and stuff.... |
