AFO test pressing
I promised I'll keep my mouth shut about who sent it to me. (You know who you are)

Now here are a few questions...

Was AFO meant to be a concept album? Interlude #1 sparks that whole thing.

Twenty Zero One = AFO's title track? (2001: AFO)

Was Sony fiddling with the final release? The test pressing seems less poppier and more interesting than the actual album.

Why were the interludes cut out?

So Good to Feel Real was a song for itself on the pressing, but it's a hidden track on the standard release. Any explanations?

Can you list any other peculiarities on the topic of the test pressing?

well, the interludes are totally connected to 2001: a space odyssey, and the album was meant to be called 2001: a funk odyssey.
sony don't want to have the year on it, and maybe they also erase the interludes because of that, not to connect it with the film.
about the tracklisting, it's curious that there are a edit of do it like we used to do and most of the songs are extended version, but it's also true (and extrange) that love foolosophy is not on it. (the band said there were about 5 versions of this song)
it also includes an instrumental (as main vein haves no jay's voice on it)

i don't know what more to say hehee

we don't know, maybe all the new different parts we have heard in love fool live versions since 2001 till 2006 were part of those versions
(they have been lot of new parts upon this time) and also the bossa nova and acoustic version have been played live

I believe Jay wanted to call the album, 2001: A Funk Oydssey but Sony said no to this request, claiming they didn't want to date the album. How this would put a negative spin on things I don't know, but there you go.

I really like the extended versions of the songs, particularly the intro to Twenty Zero One, which is spot on to how they performed the song live in that era, e.g. the Verona DVD. Hopefully with Jay free of Sony after the GH album, he can do more experimental things in future albums - like the funny little interludes on the test pressing edition.

Yeah, I really love the interludes. They could've make the album more unique if they just left them there. Sony do everything wrong, but it's not their fault they're irrational fools.

Out of all the albums, AFO must be the most interesting one, since it has the test pressing with the deleted material which only makes you wonder about some things, like, is Sony taking control of the band?

I also looove POML from the pressing.

Yes, Jay always said he likes longs versions, because well basically starting from the name of the band, JAM means improvisation in music, so that's what they do most of the time with the tracks, specially on the early albums, now that Sony is behind them all the time, they don't have the musical freedom they used to.

2001: A Funk Odyssey was a brilliant title and the originally contained tracks would've been a great, very different and unique homage album. Still, I think they managed to do a great thing by making an electro funk album and a bossa-nova style on it too.

Is my least favorite Jamiroquai album I believe, but it has some great tracks on it for sure.
