How to post short links
Hello Jamirotalkers,
from time to time I have to edit some messages because people are posting too long links.
I want to show you a possibility to make links shorter, so your posting will look better, not so confusing and most of all: it won't stretch the forum design - that's the main problem with long links - the site will be stretched and people with a small monitor will have to scroll from left to right. In order to avoid this you can use BBCode to hide the link into a little text or word - or even a picture.
So, here we go.
Posting a link with BBCode:
- This is the link you want to post:
http://www.this-is-a-very-long-link.com/downloadfiles/subfolderA/anothersubfolderB/songXYZ.mp3
- Highlight the link, then click on the URL tag - the system will pose the tags before and after the link - it will look like this:
[url]http://www.this-is-a-very-long-link.com/downloadfiles/subfolderA/anothersubfolderB/songXYZ.mp3[/url]
- You have to make a few changes - have a look at this example in order to understand, what to do:
[url=http://www.this-is-a-very-long-link.com/downloadfiles/subfolderA/anothersubfolderB/songXYZ.mp3] ...insert a text here... [/url]
The result will be a clickable link which only shows the text you have inserted.
The code has to be like this:
[url=ABC]xyz[/url]
ABC -> the link
xyz -> the text which appears as a link
If everything is correct, you will only see the xyz which is a clickable link and will lead you to the hidden link in your code.
I hope this is easy enough to understand.
Use this thread in order to test the function, if needed.

Ha, i remember that there are already describtions about how to use the URL tags properly - and all the other possibilities you have with the BBCode... so follow this link and maybe you will learn a few things:
