What's your favorite regional band?
All,

Whats your favorite band from your country or region, well, here im Brazil there is a band called SKANK, I like very much.

Their lyrics are poetic and intelligent.

They won the Grammy 2004 "The Best Rock Brazilian Album"

I would like to know your favorite band from your country or region. Wink

Hello there,

Mm.. interesting...

Well, there are not big funky jazzy bands where I live, but I can name a few: Memphis, la Blusera (blues & funk); Gustavo Cerati (more electronic orientated on his lasts albums); Illya Kurykai and the Valderramas (pure soul & funk but they are no longer together).

And I know a guy from college that has his own band, and they have recorded a couple of demos. The band is called 'Devine' and they play funk and blues, really interesting. I hope they could record an album (they are very close!).

I think that in italy the most important singer (nowadays) is EROS RAMAZZOTTI...i really don't like him......but he obtains a lot of success in Spain, south America, germany.....

The best, and the only one (hehehehe) Funk/Salsa band in Venezuela is Los Amigos Invisibles!

Vocals (Julio Briceño):

Bass (Jose Rafael Torres) and percussions (at the bottom - Mauricio Arcas):

Guitars (Jose Luis Pardo):

Keyboards (Armando Figueroa):

Drums (at the bottom) (Juan Manuel Roura):

Their best songs are:
- Diablo
- Ease your Mind
- Esto es lo que hay
- Gerundio
- Ponerte en cuatro
- La vecina
- Amor
- Llegaste tarde
- Cuchi-Cuchi
- Fonnovo

Just download these songs from Kazaa and see the quality of the Venezuelan musicians!!! nice songs are these...

they also exist over ten years now in different formations

"Blumentopf" what means flower pot in english Laughing
they are a hip hop crew with really good lyrics and live performance

Hahaha, man, I know exactly what you mean!!! Because as you know, lot of people here listen to Jasmin Stavros, Mišo Kovač, turbo folk.

Otherwise people listen to folk music which we young people name "Govedna" which would mean something like "cow music". Majority of youg people listen to metal and corny pop bands.

In Slovenia, we really don't have good bands!! Maybe some of you have seen siddharta on MTW world chart? Well, they suxx very hard.

Our most famous band is Laibach, maybe some of you have heard about them?

There is only one band in Slovenia that I like: Rotor

No, that was not meant to be nazi sign. They have nothing to do with nacism. They play very very cool chillout house!

hehe, you know it's illegal to provide songs that are copyrighted and available in stores for download?

First the one who would put it on site would have problems and second, Meike could have problems. So ...

Sorry but not so good idea Wink

There is a Minneapolis-Based Record Label (For Hip Hop acts) called RhymeSayers entertainment. The most popular group on this label is known as Atmosphere (who actually has had a fair amount of national exposure, MTV2 airplay, and critical acclaim). You might have a heard a song from this group called "The Balance".
There is also a performer on the label called Brother Ali, who's a white bald albino (looks a lot like Ian Robinson from MTV news), but absolutely tears it up.
The third group is Eydea and Abilities. I sampled these guys a couple of weeks ago, and they have some of the hottest beats I've heard in awhile.

All three acts rip it up, so search for them on the net or your illegal downloading site and enjoy.

Here's a link to sample some of Atmosphere's songs off their most recent album "Seven's Travels". The samples can be heard using Windows Media Player or Real Player. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the list of songs to sample.
