The way I understand the lyrics :

Song seems to be about someone who hardly wanted and dreamed to be a star, doing everything he could to make it by any means, he successfully reached his goal, but completely lost control of his life while becoming famous.
Icarus myth.

He is now alone in drug and addictions, craziness, and love troubles.

In the end he seems to run away from those addiction, and have learned from all his previous mistakes; praying to not doing it again.

The trick of the song is to expressly name someone whit a mysterious name, whereas it seems it's nothing but a very autobiographic song indeed, smart.

is a song about jay's own life, i see it that way
and the way you understood the lyrics says it all Wink

nice tune, in fact i love everyday more this album Very Happy

I love this song and the reggae part. Being a huge roots reggae fan (4000+ reggae albums and another 800 Bob marley albums) when non-reggae bands insert reggae often times it makes me cringe but not in this case. It's a very good and smooth transition.

Why the song is about Jason life in my opinion:

He's a man
He's a pig in paradise

A young self made boy from the streets in show business.
All he's searching is fame, the paradise he was after, to get out from the streets.

Even if it will be hard, he's going to make it, at any price. He's ready to take the Night train to fame. He will stick it out.

He thinks that he solved all this problems but ...he might get blown into the
weeds tonight

He's dispossessed and crazy
Thank you for nothing baby
All those dreams are going up
in smoke

98-2003 era ? The guy is going crazy, megalomania, drugs, losing relatives one by one ? (group members who said goodbye/were fired ? "thank you for nothing baby")

No more Blue sky hanging over
your head
No more Blue skies hanging over
you ooh

Come on Floyd!

Get off that shotgun ride

Shoot em up and shoot em down
Cut down this bird of freedom
Kick it, stick it, doin what you can

Gotta make the pieces fit
Get rid of all that shit

The guy is brainstorming a lot. He's slowly killing himself and all he created. He can't lose everything How can I give up on all the days I know I´ve won . He has to make something, to get away from all this bullsHLt. To bring back Blue skies. He will as we all know: I thought I might be dropping out
now I am gonna work it out
I´m gonna work with me
Rolling Eyes

You're a lone extravaganza
A man, living alone, without family, in a manor. Self mockery, typical of Jason sense of humor.

Hey Floyd,
Don't get your mind in a mess again

He seems to be rather safe now, but he's giving self advice, learn the lesson you fool!

Yes, I also think he may be singing to himself. Makes sense.
Besides, he likes to put the 'personal' tracks as the last ones (Picture Of My Life in AFO, Hot Tequila Brown in D-in the editions without Time Won't Wait bonus).

Just Another Story is the "real first part" of 6 Jay's autobiography tracks": Hey Floyd is the last part for the moment as If it taugh him a lesson.

Notice the evolution between:

"A bullet in the head is a lesson learned " to "Get off that shotgun ride"

The full chapters can be heard through out:

Just Another Story-
Black Capricorn Day-
Soul Education-
Picture of My Life-
Hot Tequila Brown-
Hey Floyd.

Wow Seb! Great interpretation.
Definitely think it is autobiographical. Crazy White Horse as a drug reference.

I think he is torn between 2 things. Maybe it is quitting the music, or something more personal. But I agree, represented in 'Hey Floyd' and 'Blue Skies'.

The music is a bit all over the place, but I kinda like it. Represents 'the can't sit still' quality of Jay!

Maybe you can help figure out "Smoke & Mirrors"!

yesterday I was reading the Dynamite Booklet, and in the thank yous section it says something like this "A huge thanks to my mum, that knew that i could break the chain" (correct me if i am wrong but i remember reading something like that), the song is obviously autobiographical.

"You don't even know your name!"

Yep Matute, its about the same as he's saying in this interview :
Quote:
The straw that broke the coke-camel’s back was his mother turning up for Christmas 2003 and he had 'eyes like golf balls’ and hadn’t slept for days. 'My mum just shook like me a dog. “You carry on like this you’re gonna lose everything.”’ But that was a long time ago.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/8064590/Jay-Kay-interview.html

"Dirty dancer !"
It makes me think of this greenish video where he's dancing (REALLY high) on Little L wounded buffalo remix (that I will not post here by respect, as it seems to be a private video tape uploaded on youtube) but I think that we've all seen it.
