Prince Fans - 21 concerts in London - 2007

LONDON - Prince, whose hits include "Purple Rain" and "Kiss," will play 21 shows in London this summer.

The eclectic pop superstar, who is a Jehovah's Witness, said he wouldn't be playing any other European dates in 2007 because he must devote time to studying the Bible.

Tickets for the Earth Tour, set to begin Aug. 1, will be priced at $62 in tribute to his last album, "3121," he said Tuesday at a press conference.

Fans will receive a copy of his new album with their ticket.

"Last time I was here, a lot of people didn't get to see me, so we are trying to make it affordable for everybody," said Prince, who spoke to the media in a darkened room lined with purple drapes. "That's why we are doing such an extended stay."

The tour will begin with seven nights at London's O2 Arena. It will also include some secret club gigs. Tickets for the 02 Arena shows go on sale Friday morning.

Prince said he's prepared about 150 songs and will play a different selection at each show — including a version of The Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road."

"There are going to be so many nights here that we are going to change the show every night," he said.

Prince also declared himself "a big fan" of English chanteuse Amy Winehouse and said he hoped she would show up at one of his shows.

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/43561-prince-reunites-with-wendy-lisa

In our recent clearinghouse of all things purple, we mentioned that the details we had on Prince's upcoming album Planet Earth were a bit, er, scant.

Well, now they're less scant. We've got a release date-- two, actually! Planet Earth will hit July 24 in North America, and July 16 on the rest of, um, planet Earth. And a record label! Columbia Records, come on down.

First single "Guitar" hits radio June 11 (hey, that's today!), but I'm sure all of you have taken full advantage of the marvels of the computer age and downloaded "Guitar" to your Verizon Wireless phone already, right? (Yeah, us neither.)

But the BIG BIG news about the new album is that it finally reunites Prince with Purple Rain protégés Wendy and Lisa, who "are among the musicians appearing on 'Planet Earth'," according to a press release. (That's all we know about their involvement.) YES! Can a full-on Revolution reunion be far behind? We sure hope so. It's not like the doctor guy has anything better to do.

I heard 'Guitar' on the radio like 5 times this week so far, and I like it. It's very much the '3121' album kind of sound, it could easily be taken from that album.

Thanks for the post. Little far, I'm afraid.

D!

I saw Prince twice in my life. Once in the late Eighties (solo) and the Second in the early ninties (with the New Power Generation). He puts on such a great show and is full of good energy....pretty much like the same vibe JK puts out in his concerts.
