Sorry Todd,
I guess it's really the dorkness factor that I don't like.
Your right he does have talent, but it's like a little too mushy girly stuff for me.
Whatever, everone has thier own tastes.
I'm sure you would cringe at som eof the stuff I listen to, but I assure you that none of it is anything NEW, like that.
peace! |

my taste varies from jamiroquai to bob marley to john mayer to black label society / metallica and the heavier stuff .... A bit of metal core isnt bad either but yeah i like john mayer not because of the lyrics or his appearence its just the way he plays guitar. He makes love to it and has such a wide range of skills You dotn see many people these days write there own riffs... some bands just lack imagination! _________________

Very true Pietro that America is not just looked at how we are because of our music. I was getting all carried away in my rant and sometimes I just spill over _________________ This is our corner of the Earth |

(Sorry for replying to such an old topic, but this is so tempting!!)
The commercialisation of music is really, really sad. At least 70% of people I've met in my life are people who willfully let themselves get brainwashed by MTV or a similar "music" station. Seriously, I don't get the music industry these days. They see a little money here - a little money there - yet they go for the hollow pile, instead of letting diverity spread. Why were the 70's and the early 80's great when it came to music? Because the radio wasn't very popular yet, and people were actually brave enough to say "I like this" or "I like that". That's what kept the shit separated from the shit. It's the truth, just have a better look at it all - talented bands and solo artists actually were getting some exposure and recognition during the 70's, as people listened to what they liked - they just didn't listen to the music play, they listened to the music itself, a rare feat by today's standards. M(oney)TV is a huge brainwashing, money-making machine -- nothing else. No wonder I boycott them.

Oh well, I gotta comment something I keep hearing in here. Do you know how old I was when I discovered Jamiroquai? Yes: 15. If 15-year-olds only listen to crap music, that means Jamiroquai (and I love especially the old stuff) must be crap music. And you don't think Jamiroquai are crap music, do you? Oh, I just remember when I fell in love with the Virtual Insanity video, that was even some days before my 15th birthday, so I was even still 14 when I became a Jamiroquai fan! And now guess where I saw VI for the first time. Yes: MTV. Well it was in fact MTV2Pop. So without that there wouldn't be any Jamiroquai CDs on my desk. I don't wanna sound harsh now, but you should really stop with your fucking stereotypes of 15-year-olds and MTV! Not all 15-year-olds are mainstram and have a bad taste of music, some (like me) are very different! And not all clips played by MTV are bad (though I have to say MTV Germany hardly plays any music since it "ate" Viva, but that's a different story). I only have to look at my CD collection: all finest high quality or indie stuff, (and the indie stuff is sometimes so fucking indie that you don't even know it!) and all discovered at MTV or some other "mainstream" music channel. |

as jamirofan2000 says before-and alot of people agree- the music industry is fucked up when become a bussiness...but the trouble is on everywhere, we have fucking pop bands here in latin america and the crap is surrounding around alot...so u need to save yourself from that crap and listen what you heart wanna say(yes, when i listen one of my favourites bands i feel like im singing all the songs i love...)and what your ears wanna enjoy...i will not say what music genre is better, i love all the music that can bring me memories, good feelings and can show what i feel.
so, i really hope more bands take the revolution wagon and try to change the world...and the music industry dont try to be so''boss'' to the musicians...the day when i can release a rock song will be in a forum where i know everybody...because i wanna have fun¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
by the way, i have more than 1000 posts...i will try to do a special end to my messages
something like
''we will rock you or we will blow your mind, so get ready to be high''

*Has a abit of classic memories entering one of this oldest threads*
Hello,
Man, seems like when I log on, I see my oldest threads from the beginning infancy of Talk being resurrected again.....I must a good writer or something...hehe . Thanks for the posting to this old topic, much like man's continued threatening treatment of the Earth, the big label industry is on the decline and indie labels are uprooting themselves to become the biggest finder and seller of the best new music in the world today. Talk about irony, in the late 70s/early 80s, small American record labels were bought up by corporations and merged into monolithic large records labels, then less than 15 years later, their biggest established artists begin to jump ship, start their own smaller labels and discover and promote new young acts . To quote Bob Dylan in summation, "The Times Are A'Changing!" Cheers!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000 _________________
