The competition should be over now but we have to wait "one more user" that submitted a picture and still haven't posted the votes yet. I will postpone the deadline so if you don't have voted yet, you can still do it
After this you'll have some days to discuss about who's who _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

In some days the results chart will be shown and you'll know who's the winner and who took every single pic

oh shoot
yeah, that is what I thought.
oops!
I scored that one high because it fit the descrition of 'Picture of my life' meaning someone's life is their music and how much playing and listening music means to them....so that is why I thought it was yours!
Oh well, whoever it was. Good way to put the title with the picture! _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Mine is obvious and I won't be around for a few days, so I'm going to explain why I chose this photograph. I will try to be simple, but yeah...that never works with me explaining anything
- The title of the photograph is Young.Gifted.Black. which is a song by the lovely Nina Simone in the 60's. It was a song that was made for the Black students in the schools and universities that were facing racism. Her lyrics were telling them to be strong because they are young, gifted and black. The song has been made over and over throughout the past 40 years because it is still relevant even in modern times. The song has inspired me since I was a little girl! Google the lyrics if you want to read the exact words.
- The photograph has a canvas painting in the background and it is an outline of 3 African orgin people with the signature wide nose and lips (our main features). Through my eye, they are holding their heads high and show a type of pride. Their features are defined and in this country and around the world, people don't see African features as beautiful (especially compared to European features), but they are!
- The artist's canvas is painting a picture, which is not supposed to be a copy of what the background canvas is. He is painting his interpretation of the picture in color. What you don't see is the finished product where he took those 3 in the background and made them complete different to reflect the new, updated strong black woman. It was amazing. What you see is it in progress as the black race continues to be. I was hoping the connection would kind of click when people looked at the picture.
- He is a young, black artist which defies the stereotype that many have of black men that they are mainly limited to rappers, singers, althletes or criminals. I wanted to show that he is a young, gifted and black man who has the most amazing art EVER! You can see Josh's work here: http://www.myspace.com/soldren
- So, combining all that is basically summarizing the 'picture of my life'. When going through pictures, this one stood out as portraying and reflecting how and why I continue to do what I do. As easy as people think it is being a black woman in the USA, it isn't, but I that doesn't get me down or make me upset - gives me motivation. Defying odds and kicking ass...because I am young, gifted and black.
I didn't take the picture intending to use it for this. It was taken at an AIDS Fundraiser where Josh was painting. Hope it all makes some sort of sense now _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

yeah, it was easy to guess, because you all know my little one...
Thanks everyone for voting! Never expected to win when I send in my picture - just wanted to ensure that there are enough pics to choose from...
I have chosen this pic of Mika and the snail because I love that my kids are very friendly to animals and fascinated by every little creature they find in the garden. Especially Mika - he is collecting little bugs and spiders, observes them, feeds them and lets them free again later.
I am proud that he respects life no matter how small it is.
You know, kids can be very hectic, wild and loud - but when he found that little snail he observed it for a very long time - very patiently, until it came out of its house and put out the feelers.
The pic was very spontaneouly, but it shows one big value I want to teach my kids - respect of life and living in harmony with nature.
I also like the fact that the other two winning pics are nature pics as well.

ehy just got back from holidays!!
Congrats Meike and believe me one can feel how in wonder he was in that moment ( Mika I mean) very nice one!! glad it winned!
mine was easy to understand: Hira ( the so wonderfull boxer I have no words to describe her), Garcia ( the fatty bullo that was a small and tiny puppy...... ....was tiny and small not he's huge and not tiny at all) and Ziripì ( I should say my cat but is more proper to say I'm his human).
It easy to understand why I choose that pic they are my life, they are with me in every moment and fullfill my time with so many feelings that I'll be gratefull forever...and then I love that pic 'cause they are all in a scale ( from bigger to smaller) showing they're BEST SIDES ....and gatting in the kitchen to see what is that good smell caming out of their pot.
I know in not a wonderfull pic..is just that to me is so significant and lovely...but the quality is terrible I know
@Maru: you know I would have never guessed that was your pic!!
I believe the one with the BM on the keyboard belong to Pepela ('cause of the letters on the keyboard )
same for Deesh I'm not so smart after all I had no idea that was your pic...don't know why but I thougted it was belonging to a man
and for sure I did reconnize Fra's one ( her hands, nails and THAT ring)
great competition guys
get ready for my Porto Santo's pics now (well later on or tommorow)

Deja!
Great job Mouse - great picture.
I didn't think many people would get the meaning of the picture in connection with the title, but I wanted to give people the benefit of the doubt to think about it a bit. I also thought people would be familiar with the famous Nina Simone song...guess not!
I gotta make it a little bit more easier next time!
Dyego - now that I've explained, do you see a bit more why I chose that photo? _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |
