Personally, I'd love a cover of Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island". Another Hancock cover would be great, even though the last one was performed 'only' 14 years ago ("God Made me Funky").

Another good cover song would be "(Not Just) Knee Deep" by Parliament/Funkadelic. I mean, J LOVES those guys' tunes, don't he?!

Anything from Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew".

Cantaloupe Island? I couldn't picture Jami playing that! Laughing I'm sure they can cover anything well.

I'll give it a thought, there's isn't much coming to my mind right now...

Well, I couldn't picture the band covering a Led Zeppelin song, but they still did that. And "Cantaloupe"'s actually pretty funky, once you think about it. It's one of the first steps toward the "Jazz fusion" genre which was influential on a number of Funk artists, including Jamiro. But the main reason I love it is because of that piano riff that runs through the whole song.

Okay, since this thread's been dormant for a while, and since I think it's a fabulous opportunity to share our diverse musical tastes under the auspices of a joint interest in Jamiroquai, I'm going to recommend more than three songs I would love to hear the band cover at some point. At the top of my list are:

ABBA - "As Good As New"
Trooper - "We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)"
Fleetwood Mac - "Little Lies"
The Police - "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"

If you haven't heard these songs, by all means check out some samples on your country's iTunes or elsewhere. I don't think a good cover needs to faithfully emulate the original song. These songs all have fundamental music elements which I think Jamiroquai could creatively interpolate and bend to suit their unique sound. What do you think?

1. Stevie Wonder's Superstition

2. A funkyfied version of Pink Floyd's Wish you were here

3. Finally here a great instrumental tune they could cover, making it even funkier:
Frank Zappa's The Grand Wazoo
(Have a listen here: Frank Zappa: The Grand Wazoo)

Well, actually, "Have a Cigar" (from the same album) is much easier to 'soul up' than the title track. It's the start-stop guitar line from the song that makes it relatively easy to funkify the whole track as it already breaches into funk a little bit.
