[Question No.2] - Sola Akingbola answers...
Hi Sola,
now that you are in a, let's say, creative freedom, are you
exploring new musical territories? What are the ideas you have in
mind for the new album?

. With the well deserved break from touring and recording,I've tried to explore new musical horizons around my own cultural back ground.
I'm off to Nigeria to research some drumming traditions that are rapidly dying out.
Poems of the Yorubas that express a perspective on music, religion, philosophy etc.
I've finished recording an album that explores these ideas.
The album has promted me to delve a little deeper into my cultural heritage, and deeper into THE GROOVE.
PLEASE EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE TO ALL THE FANS WHO POSTED BIRTHDAY WISHES UP ON THE SITE.
IT WAS MOST APPRECIATED. |

My maiden name is Jones, perhaps you are familiar with the sit-com 'Rising Damp' ??? Well, there was a character in that by the name of Miss Jones (the eternal virgin), she a was hyper-romantic and indulging mature spinster. She is famous for swooning in a line addressed to the landlord declaring the reason for what moved her as being:
'The drums, Mr. Rigsby, the drums'.
Whenever I pay tribute to our Sola, this comes instantly to mind - LOL !!!
The drums - well . . . the varied folklore of Saudi Arabia relies mainly on drums of all different types and sizes. Some of the ethnic types of music are very, very good. I must dig up some recordings that clear and specific of percussion for Sola and Jamiroquai to sample.
There's always that secret ingredient 'X' that is slipped in the mix that is unique, finding new ones and their application is another facet of the artistry that I thank you for Sola.
PS - I loved your bit in Revolver !!! What a treat that was !!! You were nothing short of brilliant !!! |
