JMQ; Chavez; Identity; Amigos Invisibles & Bush Topic
Hello talkers
I wanna know if it just me, the excitement I feel towards the release of a new Jamiroquai album. Am I the only one who tries to imagine what the songs are gonna be like... the cover, the videos, everything around it??
I can't help but knowing that is almost impossible that they're going to create something I don't like. I even dig the weakest tracks on the band's back catalogue.
I remember the first time I heard the album Dynamite at SONY BMG, only one time, and not having the chance of hearing it again after a few months later, just things, pieces of music that got stuck in my brain, and tried to remember just because it was beautiful music (OK granted, over the years, the 'magic' goes away).
It happened also to me when I heard 'Radio', which in my opinion is a very good song. I had to listen the damn thing over and over again (which is something I KNOW most of you did too back then, with other tracks or albums, if you will) until I could remember at least the chorus, and repeat it on my head without having to listen to it. Because when I hear a song for the first time and I like it, I have to remember it, other wise I start imagining how it was... oh damn I can't explain
(not only with JMQ, it happens to me also with other, few, new artists)
OK. I'll stop this long and apparent non-sensed thread, before I get banned or something
Just to create a new discussion in between all this birthdays and birthdays threads...
What are your feelings when you hear and read about new Jamiroquai stuff coming on its way?
D!

i got to see it to believe it! that's all!
i really hope they make more Funk and less Rock! be more Jazz and not more Pop!
they're all great musicians, i love Derrick McKenzie, i love Paul Turner, i love Matt Johnson... they are an amazing band, but they were just stuck playing those 'poppy' songs like Starchild or the rocky ones like Feel Just like... that thing... you know...
After seeing them playing that extraordinary version of Runaway live in Abbey Road, I said: "Amazing" and i know they can make it better! I really want it natural, more musical instruments and less computers!
i know they can do it!
just can't wait for the new album! _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

Indeed, but I always thought Sony had a big influence on making more commercial songs.
And thank God they didn't turn into the Will.i.am hip hop shi* that's currently producing 'the hits' of the decade.
D!
PS: "Will.i.am" oh that's clever!.... jackass... |

Of course you're not the only one who tries to imagine it, Dyego... I always look at the titles and try to hear each song in my head, and of course I never manage it.
Excitement about new releases has abated with the last couple, in no small part because FJLIS is such an utterly shit song that my expectations for Dynamite crashed through the floor when I heard that song (of course when I heard the album before buying it, I was far happier). And I didn't know a thing about the Montreux DVD until I got back from Spain last Wednesday and saw it on Amazon... bought it on Saturday and sat down to watch it and it hardly felt like an event at all, superb though it was!
My main excitement's reserved for the gigs now... but when the sabbatical's over and the post-Sony Jamiroquai have some material ready for us to hear, I suspect I'm going to feel 14 years old again...

I just feel excited to hear some new tracks. I think that emotion is pretty basic and standard when it comes to new music of bands you dig and have been diggin' for a long time.
Will.I.Am is a brilliant producer and it is a shame he is judged on what are hits. If anyone bothered to look in his catalog of non-hits and hear his production on other tracks with not-so-popular-to-chart artists, they might see that he is actually talented and a good producer. I honestly wouldn't mind him doing something with Jamiroquai. What harm could one song do or even a few?
Hell...if I had to digest the majority of AFO, I'm clearly sure I can digest any 'hip-hop sh*t' (as you say Dyego..which truthfully it is funny what you classify as "hip-hop") that he would do with Jamiroquai.
I don't want them in a box...out of the record contract - do what you like boys! _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

I am not saying he is not a "brilliant" producer, I just don't like how the songs sound, 'I Got It From My Mama' is the male version of 'My Humps', is almost the same. Processed beats.
I don't know exactly what the task of a producer is, but I always thought it was about music. I don't think is like that anymore, specially with Will.i.Am. Just my 2 cents.

Brilliant is up for interpretation and just my opinion, so you can disregard that really.
I can see how you can say that about his music because you seem to only be exposed to or listen to what is mainstream, current and what is out there from him. Fortunately for me, I'm exposed to and seek out more that he does or with other artists such as Chrisette Michelle, Nas, and Common.
I don't know a lot officially about production, only what I think it should be or what I like to hear, so I can't really comment on that part of your reply.

oooh, Don't trust me!
My first love of music is the hip-hop culture, so that taints everything I say and I think my newfound respect from him is also stemmed from the fact that he was in the hip-hop culture before music as a breakdancer.
But, incase you want to check them out..
Chrisette Michelle - Be O.K.
Nas - Hip-Hop Is Dead
Common - I Want You _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

I'm generally not really excited before hearing new stuff from Jamiroquai. I've bought EOPE and AFO after a certain delay, although I was very excited when I heard "Too Young To Die" the first time. My point is, I get excited after I hear a Jamiroquai song the first time or own my copy of a Jamiroquai album.
But the excitement has lowered with the years, whether because you get less excited when you're getting older or because new Jamiroquai stuff ain't that good anymore compared to the older stuff. Not that I don't like newer Jamiroquai songs and albums, but my real "Love" are the first 2 albums. When I heard those the first time I was totally amazed, and RTOSC is still, after all these years, my favourite album at all.
(Off-topic again:
Speaking of Venezuela, Ed have you seen the Spanish king Juan Carlos leaving the room at the Ibero-American summit because of your president Hugo Chavez? It so rare to hear a monarch nowadays telling someone else to shut up, all because Chavez called the former Spanish prime minister Aznar a fascist.
Yes, I have to admit, it wasn't all your president's fault the Spanish king got upset, the Nicaraguan president (who's name I forgot) was the last straw that broke the camel's back after defending Chavez.
Ed, I now understand why you have a certain dislike for Hugo Chavez. Simply calling people fascist because they are politically on the right side is not very decent. He could've said that Juan Carlos' spiritual father was a fascist, who was actually Franco, former dictator of Spain, but not Aznar, who is simply a member of the moderate right-wing Popular Party.) _________________

I was bummed I missed them here this past weekend. They were in Philadelphia and New York, but I had too many things going on and low on cash, but they'll be back I'm sure! _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Not sure Juan Carlos would be too happy to hear you claim that his 'spiritual father' was Franco...

Best moment of the week: Juan Carlos shouting at Chavez! I disagree (or agree) with Ophone in part, but that's not even worthy to discuss after the laugh I have over and over again watching the replay of the King's temporary insanity.
And Ed, I had the chance to check on Amigos Invisibles...they're VERY good. I saw them in the Sony's show "Ya es mediodía en China" Nice groove. _________________ Call me up, turn me on, tune me in... |
