Connections of Jamiroquai with other artists!
(I could swear I already posted this... )
I remember someone asking me about connections of Jamiroquai with various other artists. Here's a small [and nowhere near complete] 'net' of artists and how they're connected. Two [or more] artists are connected if:
- One artist has covered a song by a second one;
- One artist has sampled a song by the other;
- One artist has collaborated with the other one;
- One artist has acknowledged influence of the second one;
- One artist has met the other one in person;
[etc.]

... very confusing, but it seems to make sense!
This reminds me a bit to another great artwork I found some time ago... not sure if we talked about it here, but I think not.
On the first sight it looks like the London Underground map, but if you take a closer look you see bands and their genres. Funny how they rated Jamiroquai - you can find our boys at a combination of the lines "Electronica & Dance", "Pop" and "Jazz". No Funk... but the Funk line is not far away at least.
Here you can find an article about the map:
http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/culturevulture/archives/2006/02/03/going_underground.html
...and here the link to download the map as PDF file:
right mouseclick and safe
Enjoy!!

There's a website that provides a map like this one:
http://www.musicplasma.com
It's very nice, it's a navigable flash map. _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

thats freaking awesome! funkydonkey it would be nice to see your map with a breakdown of those hubs into who has sampled who the most, and etc- to know if there is one particular hub that is a super hub in all situations or does it switch around depending on which one of your points you are focusing on |

It would be great if it was something like wikipedia so the users could modify the content in a "Web 2.0" flavour. The JMQ map doesn't provide the true connections of the band, at least IMHO... _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

That's true. When I was making my net, I paid more attention to the similarity between styles, not fandoms. I don't think a computer-generated net can be as precise and correct as a one made by a person who knows who he/she's writing about. |
