Travelling through/in the USA, England or Canada?
There is a new cheap bus that operates in England, USA, and Canada. It is called Megabus. I don't think it started yet on some routes...but I did search for the middle of June from Manchester to London and it came up 5 pounds.
There are some restrictions and such, but for those backpacking, travelling or looking for a cheap trip, check it out and maybe it can help you.

You can change countries through the icons on the right side of the screen, up top..they are a bit small, so look carefully!
