I wish there was more respect between different people and nations. Especially on my birthday... 2guilty

The direction this discussion went now confirms my indifference about football/soccer and other sports which devides people into nations/groups.
Yes, it is "just" a game and fun and people say those events bring people together. I wish it would but I doubt it. Discussions or reactions like in this topic for example confirm my feelings, that the own nation is for most people very important. Why is it like that?

I for myself I didn't really follow the matches because for me it was so unimportant which team would win. I was born and am living in Germany but that is really so random... I could have also been born in Japan, Namibia or on Planet xy in another galaxy. It's not important, really. If the german team wins a match it has nothing to do with me. Yeah, I accidentially live in the same country but that's the only connection I have with them. I am also not interested in this kind of sport, so this all has no attraction for me. In my passport stands "german" and I speak the german language... I live in Germany, and I like to live here, but all in all, I am way more a human than a german, you know. I feel that I am one little piece of a big big thing - our planet earth. Or even one little piece of this Galaxy. I wish more people would think more global and would not dissociate from each other because of colour, nation, religion or whatever.
It's about time to start thinking in bigger dimensions - we are all ONE.

I have the impression that those big sports events distract us people from the really important things. A lot of people are so focused on this event that they don't realize that this group hysteria is dividing us from each other and the real problems we have (the global ones) are getting in the background. I'd prefer to have more big events that binds us all together instead of dividing us into groups.

Sorry, if this seems to be offtopic.. but you know - If I wouldn't think so global I would have never opend an international forum. I could have also opend a german one, but I wanted to be more connected to the whole world. It is not important for me from which countries you all are from. I only see you as fellow humans, that's what counts for me. So, please, please, do me the favour and keep this place a global one. Our nationalities shouldn't be in the spotlight. Our common interest, the music should be. Music is our common language.

Thanks.

Mouse

Well Mouse, in Rome it was already "Panem et circensis" (Bread and games). The Romans were right, if the people had enough to eat it wanted to be distracted with games.
Just consider that the human race has evolved so far that it doesn't want no more to see humans killing each other or being attacked by wild animals as it used to be in the Roman Empire, but to watch football or other "non-violent" sports, where different nations affront each other.

I am Luxembourger and I'm happy to be one. Although my country isn't very strong in football, I'm happy when my national team wins or draws a game against a bigger nation or if (which is more probable) a Luxembourger, like Kim Kirchen, Andy Schleck or Fränk Schleck would win the Tour de France or at least a stage of it.
As Luxembourger it might be different as as being German. As German you are used to win quite often in sports, as Luxembourger you aren't, so a victory of a compatriot feels much more exceptional for me than for you.

Even if I agree with you that we all are just a very small unit of the galaxy and nations lose their importance in a cosmic view, I'm a nationalist when it comes to sports and language issues.

Roude Léiw, huel se!!! Very Happy
