**CONCERT ETIQUETTE**
Dear Jamily,

I thought that I would bring something to your attention, after experiencing a bitter taste of bad concert decorum by another Jamiroquai fan at the front row of Rock in Rio on Friday.

If you bring a banner to a gig remember that when you hold them up the people around you cannot see the stage. Waving them occasionally is one thing, but holding them up repeatedly and for long periods can ruin the night for other Jamiroquai fans (both Jamirotalkers and other fans in the audience). Please respect that other people are there to see the same band as you are and, regardless of whether they have travelled 1000 miles or not to see them, have paid for the ticket just as you have and therefore they have as much right to see the gig and deserve equal respect. I was absolutely disgusted by this person's disrespect for the people around her, despite us asking her about 8 times not to hold her banner above her head (and her repeatedly choosing to ignore our requests).

I understand that fans want Jay to acknowledge their banner, and in the case of this person he did so early in the gig, but once he does, then please allow other fans to enjoy the concert.

I realise that we cannot influence the behaviour of other fans at a concert, but when we go together as a group, we should be respectful of each other as well as other concert goers. We should set an example of good concert etiquette being representatives of Jamirotalk.

I do expect some comeback from this thread, but any form of aggression and I will ask Meike to delete your comment. If you want to pm me, then please do, and I will respond to you when am back in London on Tuesday.

Many thanks for reading and thank you for your co-operation!

Anna

Oh, C'mon! Long periods? Triple during the concert for a couple seconds is a LONG period? Then you could ask politely, not by tearing it out of a young girl. That wasn't 8 times, I was nearby, and that was just 3 times and actually try to understand her, she's 17 and that's her first ever JMQ concert and try, just for a sec to understand her emotions.

PS
Actually such words:

are kind of aggression too:) BTW the way you teared her poster during the concert was also VERY aggressive, I did see it and I don't want to hold anyone's position, I just want to understand how can ppl ask for etiquette when they don't demonstrate it themselves? Sad

Perhaps you're not aware of what happened, because you were on the other side of her (she was holding the banner up to her right) and I assure you, nothing was said the first few times (until after Jay had acknowledged the banner in the second or third song) but Anna asked her at least seven times, I asked her four times, the woman beside me (who was also at her first concert) asked her and the man behind her asked her - and each time was a separate incident. She held the banner up in front of us every time Jay came over to our side of the stage and it became very invasive for the people whose view she was repeatedly blocking. She was asked politely quite a few times but did not acknowledge any requests.

Everyone understands her emotions because we share them.

Pepela, I understand you trying to stick up for your friend, but please hear us out.

You mentioned emotions in your reply. We have emotions too, so please understand our emotions when we have equally paid a lot of money to get to the gig and cannot see the stage. Once again, we are not saying that banners are not allowed (please read my first post). My actions were as a result of frustration (I didn't tear the poster, I pushed it out of her hand, which I do not regret, otherwise she would have been blocking our view all night - what do you do when someone repeatedly ignores you after initially asking them nicely not to do such a thing?). Jay had already acknowledged your friend's banner - we saw him point to it.

There were people around us who complained about your friend's behaviour, not only us. As LilyJammer pointed out that many of us had asked her to stop covering our view of the stage and (I have to underline this again), her choice was to ignore our requests. You mentioned her age - how many times do you have to tell a 17 year old not to do something which is quite irritating and disrespectful?

As for asking people to PM me, I think that's reasonable - there is nothing aggressive about asking people not to get out of hand on here. It is just a precaution.

There is nothing more I can say at this point as LilyJammer has been very clear in her post about what happened.

I'm not trying to stick up anyone, I already told you that I'm not going to hold anyone's position, I just want to be fair. I didn't see her putting up the banner for 8-10-20 times, really, that wasn't so, I saw only three times.
And I really can understand your position but still we shouldn't be so rude to each other, we're jamily and shouldn't "eat" each other for banners

Jeena, I am sorry to say that, but I don't understand why you start being insulting when everyone else was just trying to explain their opinions and needs in a respectful way. Anna and Rachel have been politely asked to get this discussed and cleared up. For me your answer seems to be rude and disrespectful. More appropriate would have been if you explained the problem from your side so we get to see the story from your point of view.

I was not there, so I won't get involved. Fact is, some people were annoyed and they want to speak about it. The reason is not to attack each other, but to get respect from each other and to find an agreement how such situations could be avoided at next gigs. I mean, when someone tells me: what you did, annoyed me, I will say sorry, will try to understand it, will tell my feelings about it and try to explain why I did so, and we would try to find a solution that everyone can feel comfortable again.

I'd be happy if such a discussion could find place here, instead of a battle.

I'd like to see respect for each others reasons. This thread started respectful, let's try to bring it to a respectful end.

Thank you!

I would like to say i didn't see exactly what happened but i know Anna was concerned after the gig but if this can be met on common ground and a solution reached then this is better.

i understand emotions run high on the front row bounce
especially during 'Deeper' 2yes

'courtesy' is the word for this thread Idea

Thank you for your comment Jeena.

As you can see from the original post, there were no names named, it was just an example to raise good concert behaviour, not a personal attack. Jeena, you chose to own up to being the person used in the example, but I never had any intention of identifying anyone involved.

It wasn't my intention to tear the poster, I just wanted to get it out of the way, so that both myself and those around you could see the stage.

Sometimes these issues have to be raised so that in future, everyone can have a positive concert experience.
