JAY'S TO THE MANOR BORN - 3 MAY 2009
Jay's to the manor born

Jay Kay is weighing up whether to buy a travellers' site near his house for 100,000 pounds - in a bid to get them to move on.

The Jamiroquai frontman was overheard chatting about the idea with locals in a pub in Princes Risborough, Bucks, near his 75-acre estate Horsenden Manor.

A fellow drinker told me: 'Jay said he might make an offer to the travellers with his own money.' It must be nice to have such deep pockets..

Thanks for posting Samantha.

I have a few questions:

1. Is this true?
2. How many people are there and would £100k be enough?
3. Where would they go?
4. Can Jay please come and help us in Potters Bar if things get out of hand?

I understand that it's difficult for travelling families to settle and to raise a family and although most travelling families feel that "we are all British subjects and we have as much right to be here as anyone else", it's vital that they don't create a ghetto and ruin the atmosphere of villages / areas which were created by generations of people. There are also many unauthorised sites across counties in England, which can create a huge disruption to people's lives, which is where the Councils come in, to ensure these are monitored and that they are aware of people setting up home on these sites.

Sadly, our "green belts" are slowly going to disappear if people don't make a stand and try and reach an alternative solution, so it's good to read that they are.

What do travellers mean in this sense?
I'm confused.

Pikeys! They're like squatters/gypsys who set up shop on vacant land and stuff... We don't have them here in Oz, but you see them sometimes in the country in England. Watch that Guy Ritchie film Snatch - Brad Pitt was one... They like dogs, talking funny and boxing! Hahah! Razz

I'm irish and i just wanted to say that we're not all pikeys, itinerants, travellers etc.....
I think that why there are so many of them in England is cos they casued so much trouble in ireland the guarda kicked them out, well basically it was that or go to prison so they moved over there.
Seriously though you wouldn't want to cross them. They've been known to steal clothes off washing lines, animals anything that isn't chained down. Most of them are okay in Ireland that is, they just go round to houses trying to selll knocked off carpets or the younger kids ask to mow the grass for a couple of quid. I haven't actually taken them up on that though as i'm frightened they'll be scoping the place out.
Anyway, yeah unfortunately England has gotten the worst of them..ha, ha Jay'll need alot of luck getting rid of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
