Derrick and Sola - London International Music Show (6.14.09)
http://www.londoninternationalmusicshow.com/line-up/drummer-live/
Derrick and Sola will be appearing at the Drummers Live section on Sunday, June 14th at 1pm.
The London International Music show is back for its second year at the ExCeL exhibition centre, London Docklands from Thursday 11th until Sunday 14th June 2009. The all music show is the biggest of its kind in the UK and incorporates four exhibitions including Drummer Live and London Guitar Show, Unplugged and Sound Recording Technology.
The show features artists, an exhibition of musical instrument brands, and a host of seminars and activities. From professional to amateur, classical to heavy metal and student to teacher, over the four days, the show offers real hands-on experience to try, hear and see everything to do with making, recording and listening to music.
Steve Vai will be jamming on a couple of standard rock covers on Saturday and Sunday afternoon with Phil Hilborne and Nicko McBrain, but will not be performing a solo show, or any Vai material. Nicko will also be playing on Sunday in a special performance with leading multi-percussionist Pete Lockett (Bjork, Jeff Beck/ Robert Plant/Jarvis Cocker/Peter Gabriel etc).
The live music is held in a 3000 capacity arena, and the line-up is expected to feature world class artists, with names to be announced over the next few months. This is an opportunity to not only see the performers up close and personal, but also a chance to meet them with signing, and question and answer sessions.
The Drummer Live line-up features Nick D’Virgilio (Spock's Beard/ Tears for Fears), Derrick McKenzie and Sola Akingbola (Jamiroquai ), Cora Coleman (plus her bass player husband Josh Dunham and fellow Prince band member) will play her first UK drum clinic at Drummer Live. Headlining Saturday will Steve Smith (Journey/ Vital Information).
In addition, there is a range of inspirational seminars, featuring experts from the industry covering careers advice, free tuition, instrument demonstrations, hints and tips from world class producers and more.
Brand names at the show include Marshall amps, Shure microphones, Tama drums, Ibanez Guitars and Roland keyboards. In total, the organisers expect more than 200 top manufacturers to exhibit representing more than 300 brand names. Covering state-of-the-art equipment to dream instruments, acoustic to digital, recording to stage equipment, software to sheet music, educational courses to accessories, the show brings together the world's most famous manufacturers, displaying new innovations and the most exciting gear the music world has to offer.
Ticket prices

Saturday or Sunday Steve Vai 'Alien Guitar Secrets' 3hr Masterclass & exhibition is priced at £180, Saturday or Sunday Phil Hilborne, Steve Vai, Nicko + guests concert & exhibition is priced at £25. _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com

had a great day although Derrick & Sola were only on for 40 mins and it wasn't really a clinic as such, just demonstrating what they do but apparently according to Derrick the backing tracks planned had been misplaced so they improvised very well
I did however record Derrick mentioning the work on the new album and it being finished - late this year/early next year meaning the single was due for November
I will put some pics & vids up here as soon as i get home as i am still on the move _________________

here are some pics, i have put an album on facebook and i am also waiting for Derrick's clearance to post a video on here. He said he is in a session at the moment so i don't want to disrupt the new album process. That wouldn't make me very popular on here
i have uploaded a mini video of my brother messing around on one of the electronic kits:

Hey Russ...
You probably already know that, but the Excel is where the You Give Me Something video had been shot... 7+ years ago...
