Driving licence?
Hello Jamirotalkers.
Well; we all are from many different countries wich is very nice, and I hope in this case, useful too.
I wanted to know how takes place the driving licence exam abroad. I will detail my experience and how (awful) it is in France. And why because of this my mood and my pockets are actually so empty.
I register in order to get driving licence in february 2006.
In France there are two steps: the first is the theorically licence, compulsory, you can't go to step 2: driving without it. You have to take several lessons broadcasted on dvds in order to train, and when you think you are ready, ask the secretary (yes it's very dumb) in order she gives you a date for the exam.
I got first step in late june 2006. All was good. Back from holydays, I started driving lessons in september 2006 every evenings after work. The minimum is 20 hours (included in all-in package with theorical exam for about 700 ~ 800euros) but you are never ready with only those 20hours. After those; the secretary nicely asked me if I were interested to try (because again it's the secretary of the driving school who decide everything, not you, you can't go et register yourself to have a trial, even if you want it, so they can require you to take hours and hours, no more included in the package: 43euros/hour)
So I accepted the trial whereas I was not ready, and failed, but what I didn't know was that I should wait (and pay more than 15 extra hours, who last only about 45minutes: late of the "teacher", he brings you to the cash dispenser, baker, pharmacy for his own interest) 7 months to have another trial (also, notice that you can't change the school where you are registered.... )
The trial last 35 minutes now, it's very hard and the inspector is very strict, you have to look everywhere to watch if there is no car behind you: three mirrors, behind your shoulders, he ask you 2 questions like "how do you change a wheel, how do you change lights" and to finish you have to do 2 parkings in rear gear.
I had my third trial last week. All did good, city driving, highway driving, good answers, good parkings. I received the answer by post today (now they didnt tell you the answer just after the exam, because a lot of inspectors were beaten).
The answer is REFUSED. I really don't understand why, but it's often like this for many people. I have to pay again the 130euros of "files fees" + 43euros' hours. And wait more than 6 months.
I'm not the only one in this case, resulting that:
-you see a lot of young people on many forums who are depressed because of this, oftenly talking about suicide.
-many people buy their licence in abroad countries where you can easily do it
-many people are driving without licence (10% estimated) or are going to school driving in cars.
Vive la France. _________________ Smile ~ |

No problem...
There are simple ways: first step is in theory exam, and you can take special lessons, where you are in group and you're given the whole explanations of that theory and the second is practical, where you can also take lessons (1 hour a day) and the assinstant teach you how to make several movements among the standing colums, or smth like that after that you take final exams and the driving licence is yours
or there is more simple way - you don't have to take special hours in theory, neither practical lessons. You can buy this theory lessons and study yourself, then you can ask to you father, brother or friend to let you drive 1 hour just for practise and after this, you can freely go to the special department (where driving licences are given) and pass exams... and the driving licence is yours _________________

Thanks a lot Funkiroquai:)
One more question, how does the complete process take aproximatively ?

A little like in Poland, when you think you're ready you register yourself and have a number of passage, exemple number 99, and when the 98th is done it's your turn. It's so much modern, smart and free... In France you can't decide anything, all you can do is pay. A lot of people even pay their school driving teacher to have an exam date ...
Please don't hesitate to reply to this topic it really interest me _________________ Smile ~ |

Now you guess, why I've mentioned that it's paradise to pass driving licence exams, 'cos if you have time you can get it just in a week.
week I say, 'cos driving licence visit dates are only in week-ends and if you don't count other days of week it comes 2 days _________________

Thanks for your support Funkiroquai. I just saw your message.
To continue the topic, I recently take one hour in a polish school driving in Krakow. At the end of the lesson, the instructor said that I knew driving, he didn't understand why they didn't gave me the license. The only thing he was complaining about was the fact that I watched behind my shoulders and not only in the mirrors, he said it was overall very dangerous...
Maybe I will try to get it there, I have to call back him for informations since I'm french about the registration and all the papers.
ps: I'm a little disapointed by the lack of participation in this topic, 200 views; many nationalities and only 2 peoples who took their time to reply Please I'm very interested in those informations _________________ Smile ~ |

Well I got my driving licence very recently so I can tell you how it happens in Poland.
First you have to have 20h of theory lessons, in groups (you pick the school where you want to learn it) - you can divide them into several meetings or a two day marathon if you don't want to waste too much time (that's what I did ) After that you need 30h of driving with an instructor - again, you pick a driving school. It takes some time to get 30h - usually it's about 2h/week. After that he writes you a note saying you have 20h of theory and 30h of practical driving experience - with that note you can register for an exam. The exam comes in two parts - the theoretic one which is a test which you anwser on computers in a special examinations center (and get the result immediately - you have to anwser correctly to 18 out of 20 multiple-choice questions), and a practical one for which you can register only after passing the theoretic one. This part is the difficult one - currently you have to wait around two months to get a practical exam. The exam is pretty hard, only around 10% pass it when they are doing it for the first time. First you have to anwser some question like 'how to check the oil level' etc, then you have to do some maneuvers on a special square (for example to start the car while its standing on a incline - without letting it to roll down) and then you have to ride around the city for about an hour (also with parking sideways, frontways and backways and many other maneuvers). The exam is immediately stopped if you do anything wrong (the examiners are very strict and they fail people for absurd reasons). If everything was done correctly you are told you have passed. Two weeks later you get your driving licence. It took me about 6 months and cost me about 700 euro (well my parents to be exact ). To sum up, it really is not easy to get a driving licence here but Im happy to hear its an issue in different countries Good luck, hope you get your licence soon! |
