Thx for posting the links; it's cool of Nick to post them too, although I question the intentions. I hope this doesn't turn into some silly "old vs. new" debate, although ANY discussions about JMQ's music are welcome, so perhaps it can be a good thing. In any event, it's cool to hear a little bit more of the band's history... Gotta love youtube for that. The recordings are kinda rough, which is to be expected in a band at that stage, but still pretty amazing. It's clear that even then, at such a young age, they all had lots of funk and talent, and they were well on their way to greatness. _________________ ~~~"To perchance upon this circumstance is something of a miracle so spiritual, it's verging on the physical."~~~ |

I can only assume he just doesn't like the direction Jamiroquai is going in. Obviously it's not acid jazz anymore, maybe he feels a bit hurt or something. Hopefully he doesn't stop uploading long lost tracks because a bunch of people comment negatively about him expressing himself over the new album... _________________ If it ain't no natural law, then you can keep your regulations. I actually think it's a rather funny quote! It might not be very diplomatic, but at least it's honest and it remains written in a "light" way.
Unlike Jamiroquai, Nick Van Gelder has always kept a genuine sense of Acid Jazz, through his various projects (Akimbo forever!). He's allowed not to like the new stuff, and even more allowed to *hint* he doesn't like it.
Anyway, he can write whatever he wants as long as he keeps posting such gems. I just love it when old hidden treasures "pop out" like this (like the early demo of WYGL presented by Gilles Peterson a few months ago).

That demo is AMAZING. I listen to it in the car every chance I get, it sounds soooo jazzy and I love the flute in there _________________ If it ain't no natural law, then you can keep your regulations. 'Cause if I like it, I do it. |

Nick does have a right to express his opinion. I really don't see how its unprofessional. I see many artists, musicians talking about each other, what they like or don't like. Nick is in his zone and has done very well for himself. I'm sure Nick still have a deep respect for Jay, and the progress they made.
It wasn't you that made the comment, so why worry over it. _________________

I agree on the fact that it isn't such a big deal.
However, I see it as unprofessional because he has Rob, Derrick on his facebook, people who took 2+ years making an album (RDLS), and it's unprofessional talking like that about your ex co-workers/fellow musicians job.
There's a fine line between expressing an opinion and being disrespectful about it, specially when you share the same medium (music).
He can say whatever the hell he wants, of course. Just like I have an opinion about an opinion. |

Totally agree with Dye!
You can, obviously, have your own opinion (thank God!), but when you have some Jamiroquai members in your facebook, you can be a little more polite!
Respect never kills anybody I think!
But It doesn't matter! Can't stand for Blue Skies and Rock Dust Like STAR _________________ "People find it's hard to be strong, cos' they don't know where they're coming from" |

yeah...having an opinion and disrespecting other people's work is totally different. couldn't he just said: i don't like it!? describing the album as shit is a bit agressive _________________ jamiroquai music is like the air...you need it to live
