Sounds like someone needs a nap, Vintage73.
The sound is completely retro Jamiroquai and sounds more like If I like It than SDISJ. Of course, nothing is going to sound like 1993, but do we really want that anyways? |

Your opinion. I say it has nothing to do with it.

I am not saying I want that, Just saying I don´t agree the tune is like that era. Because it is not, in my opinion.
BTW I kind of like it too. |

I'm well known in this forum as one of the most skeptical critics of the so called "plastic sound" the band has been presenting since the last 10 years and I may say personally that Two Completely Differently Things is a masterpiece, maybe you shall become more humble after you listen to it plenty, i'm sure you'll change your opinion, trust me. _________________ At the speed of cheeba, you and I go deeper... |

It reminds me a little bit of SDISJ, but refined to perfection. Great vocal melodies and horns, beautiful and catchy. It's almost like it was written between EOPE and TROTSC, as it has a touch of both. Sort of the perfect fusion of IILIIDI/SIT/SDISJ... old school with a modern twist.
It swept me off my feet immediately. |

This song is probably my favorite song on the whole album. I would put "She's a Fast Persuader" right alongside it if it weren't for the lyrics. _________________ Just play my tune... |

I'm glad too see that a lot of you feel the same way. I have the full album now, and have listened through the entire album. This is the best song on the album! |

My favorite song on the album right now (closely followed by Fast Persuader and Lifeline). I think there's a bit of classic Jamiroquai vibe to it, mixed with mellow jazz and soul, and it merges so perfectly, I can't get enough of it! |

I wish they would've made this a single. Overall, I'm soooooooo glad the brass is back. Do you think Jay will keep them around for any future albums and the tour next year? I really hope so. I watched the videos from Montreux 2003 and the songs just aren't the same too me without it. |

@Vintage73
I agree that it doesn't have much to do with the old sound. It's very safe, melodically, very different from the experimentalism of the first two records. It sounds much more like a song off Synkronized or AFO, in terms of song-writing. Production-wise, yes, there is that meow synth which adds to it superbly. Had Toby stayed, She's a Fast Persuader wouldn't have these contemporary cheesy keyboard timbres. |

Agree. For me sounds like a Synkronized one, and it is really cool

Granted it wasn't a lot. But apart from that, how many other songs from the two first albums lie in several traditional pop (or even funk) standards? I'll grant you that their form is (sometimes) standard, but hey:
Hooked Up: really unusual chord progression;
Too Young to Die: really bass-driven, lengthy, with a "broken" instrumental part;
Music of the Mind: instrumental jazz-funk;
Whatever It Is I Just Can't Stop: broken rhythm;
Blow Your Mind: long instrumental part after the song appears to have ended;
Revolution 1993: complex rhythm, unusual chord progression in the chorus, unusual structure (form);
Just Another Story: a funk rhapsody;
Stillness in Time: the song has two choruses, complex rhythm and a latin influence that isn't alien (as in Planet Home) but fully integrated and merged into the song;
Half the Man: organ-driven, vintage synth and acoustic guitar solo — not your everyday funky ballad;
Light Years: unusual time signature and structure, very syncopated bassline;
Manifest Destiny: fully bass-driven, unusual chord progression and structure;
Mr. Moon: again, two parts that could be called a "chorus", unusual chord-progression;
Scam: unusual structure, chord progression in the end, texture;
Morning Glory: do I really have to mention this one?
Space Cowboy: structure, length, texture.
Not to mention all the solos and ad-libs from both albums and the lyrics from TROTSC. I continued enjoying much of their material after TWM (which was also experimental in many ways), by the way. |
