Where are we?
We are not in the singles charts, or the album charts?

We only have 4 dates in the Uk this year!!!

There has been little if any coverance of the new album all except x factor which was a wash out!!

What is happening this year, Jami are backl but they seem to be out.

What do you all think?

In the European Album Chart, from 11 December, RDLS is at number 14.

http://allcharts.org/music/europe/albums.htm

In France is number 6.

Sales are not what they used to be. Not for JMQ, not for anyone. Times have changed, a lot, since the last 3 studio albums.
For me, the numbers are not bad at all -for the current music industry situation-.

I'm gonna say music bussines has changed a lot since Jamiroquai started to go, and is like "today is not your time" as for other 90's marks/bands/whatever whose made the great appearence on that time. I have the feeling that today all the audiovisual sphere moves more around money than art.

Turn on your radio, all new bands and songs sound pretty similar and I bet that all of us could be artists if we have the right amount of cash and use it wisely (mainly contracting a producer who knows how the market is going on). So now music is not a matter of talent or creativity, is a matter of marketing. With its exceptions.

Plus all, seems that new generations are growing with a lame taste for art and all its implies. But is that thing they watch in TV and heard on the radio. And the media runs with money, so I find pretty difficult to put better taste on it: Media shows what the people want, and people want what the media shows.

I'm not saying that Jamiroquai turned obsolete on a time, 'cause it's not true. They evolved with time and searched for lively sound; but the main audience has changed in other direction, so it's not interesting for the people who don't know them.

Must say that the prom was/is being quite naive, it would be better for exemple using other tracks with more rythm or controversy, make original videos which more airplay (thinking on youtube searchs), etc. Also let some good DJs make nice remixes for dance floor, 'cause I know how some discos sell their own CDs with the DJs tracks and it's another way of publicity.

Before say "oh, but exist some remixes now": I've heard those, and I find fine but not great, also I know Jay doesn't agree a lot with all the remixes thing, but he must be more sly in the marketing area.

In short: I think it's too hard for these band catch a new audience today in the regular way, if new people come here it'll be in the strange way like some of us (as myself) start to know about them: hearing "by accident" a good song between the crap thing that it's called music today.

I have to agree, about "where the hell are Jamiroquai" now that they have a new album out. But, well, I live in the U.S. So I've haven't quite figured out whether it is Jamiroquai doesn't like us, or their advertising/media doesn't like us, or it is that we don't like them.

But I like their music. Very Happy

I have to disagree about assuming Jamiroquai don't fit today. I don't care where the industry has taken us. If it is good music, and it is marketed well, it should fit somewhere or rather create it's own niche.

I also think there is plenty of variety in the music today -not all music sounds the same to me! Wink I think 2010 was a good year for music, and is shifting into a more 'rock' genre.
But well, I'm loving 'The Black Keys'! Laughing Laughing
