For all the old school listeners out there.

I recommend this guide page, where you will read about almost everything:

http://www.homdrum.net/reco_s.html

On your left you have all the music categories.

Enjoy.

D!

Great record store - I've picked up many, many bargains in there over the years. I've not had chance to visit in ages though!
I must go back, thanks for the reminder! Very Happy

Good choices, and some that I'm not as familiar with.

I never listened to much Roy Ayers, so I got an album, and was listening to a track called Fever, and the strings are reminiscent of the strings in Jamiroquai's The Kids...(i think that's the one), anyway, it's a good one.

I checked out a lot of music from this list, and it's plainly awesome. On the other hand, I feel this list has a couple of holes that need to be filled with records such as Herbie Hancock's "Crossings" (1972-something), and P-Funk's "Uncle Jam Wants You !" ('79). [Off-topic: I really wonder if Mr Kay is a member of this site in that 'I'll join and hope they don't find out my real identity' fashion.]

Gil Scott-Heron's "Reflections" is awesome! Especially the closing track! I'd also recommend "Winter in America", a truly great album, which was also made by Heron.

"...Everybody Loves The Sunshine is just the living summer track. It's the real leviathan of that age - the fusion of dope-smoking fucking jazzers..."

Totally agree with you, Jay. Wink
Roy Ayers can make you fly with no so complex tunes. Jazz can be simple too.

Ok, I'm gonna confess:

I don't know whose are these bands, never heard them or I've heard without knowledge, except Earth, Wind & Fire and the covers of Roy Ayers that Jamiroquai made (and after check the original ones I prefer the covers). So my face is totally ---> Shocked about these stuff.

But I like the interview in the way that:

a) shows that Jay has his own music background and preferences, and his inspiration can come from here. I've just read something about Sly Stone's guitars in a RDLS review.

b) shows that on a time he was a fan Laughing Maybe now he wears this in secret, but I liked that hesitate moment when he met Roy Ayers and other guy who's name I can't remember; 'cause when I had the oportunity to cross words with him (with Jay, not Ayers) I felt something similar (plus my bad English from the moment).

Interesting reading, sure. : Cool
