I can't find that Same Song....
Well the title was a little obscure but here's the story...
I was downloading Simon's two new songs he recorded with his band called Groove Movement. I have to say that I want to calm the title of the Groove Movement's first US fan. Simon and his band did an amazing job. If you haven't downloaded it, I recommend you do it when his site comes back up in February.
Well I pull up google because I was curious to see if there were any hits on Simon's band. What I come across is something called "The Ugly Groove Movement." Aparently a side band that started in 1996 and ended in 1999 out of the UK. They had a song from the last album they recorded called "Same Song." So after downloading it and listening to it I'm stunned. Absolutely amazing. The recording, though a little raw, was just amazing. I'm going crazy now trying to find their two albums, Ultra Groove and KEep it Ugly.
The Ugly Groove Movement is a jazz/funk/r&b sound and is just f***in amazing. I'm going to contact the label to see if maybe, just maybe they have some left overs and would be willing to do mail order. If anyone knows anything else I'd love to know because if the label doesn't have any CD's...I'm basically screwed. Thanks Jamily. |

Hi Jamily,
6 years to reply but here it is! I founded The Ugly Groove Movement with Si back in '96 There never was a band just called 'Groove Movement'.
The good news is that I still have hard copies of "Ultragrooved"
DM me and I can sort out getting one to you!
Also, since the internet age of music, we plan to finally release "Keep it Ugly" on iTunes.
We did have a re-union gig a couple of years back when one of our original singers got married - was a lot of fun!
Thanks for your interest : )

Oh hell yes!!! I love what I heard on 'Same Song'. Definitely hook me up with a hardcopy of Ultragrooved. If you have Keep It Ugly on CD I would also love to have that. And if CDs were released for any of the bands that evolved from UGM, then I would also be up for that.
PM me the payment details. I've got paypal, if you're into that. |

Just to be sure
Thanks Funky Vibes - will do!
Just to make sure there's no confusion, The Ugly Groove Movement (1996-2000) were an Edinburgh based funk band and are completely unrelated to Simon Merrick's 2005 project 'Groove Movement'.
If you like the tune on this page:

Then that's us! : )
