I can dig how you feel, and respect your decision... it's rotten your work has been used so much without credit (I suspect it's been out there so long, most people are unaware who made it in the first place, so they couldn't even give credit if they wanted to).
Even so, I think it's a shame that we'll never see your beautiful artwork again. It really was a magnificent design. Better than any other Jamiroquai cover I can think of, actually (though I do like ROTSC and TWM). I would love to have a copy, but I'm afraid I missed out.
Again, remarkable job there, and I hope you'll change your mind someday. The fans obviously love it.

There's a mix feeling about seeing your designs all over the place without a credit for them. As any designer would tell you, we spend a lot of time doing that type of work, is not just drawing and knowing how to use the photoshop. There's a certain art behind it.
So, whoever got the covers (it wasn't really all that hard to download them!) please keep them to yourself and try not to upload them to internet. I'll really appreciate that. |

The song is really groovy, it's kinda 70's style. I'm not so sure about the artwork, it looks cheap (IMO, Dye's and Meike's designs were much better)

Beatiful song. Now I know what I missed on RDLS: a warm, smooth and sexy song like this.
For me this is (together with Fast Persuader) their best track in years.

FINALLY, it's here! Yipee! It has a delightful, smooth, old-school vibe, and the trumpet/scatting at end is just "wow."

It's a brilliant track so I agree it should've made the album, but when I think about it I can't think of a place that it would 'fit' into the album. So for that reason I'm glad we got it this way. Plus it's a nice little treat to fill the gap between album releases. It would be good if they did it again in the future. |
I agree on all fronts. This is a lovely tune, and I would love to hear more singles released in this manner.
The contest was a great idea. I saw some of the designs, including Dye's, and was blown away. I bet the folks running the contest were blown away by the volume of entries. Hope they've learned to NEVER underestimate Jamiroquai again!!

and regarding the art, it makes sense to me.

No, it is not from a car .. it is a VU Meter... that's used to scale volume, as far as I know - a measuring tool used for sound engineering.
Has nothing to do with cars. But with music!

I really like the new song, it's so beautiful, reminds me of "Blow your mind" or kinda... all the strings, the scatt, well in fact it's perfect...
I only have one question, doesn't he say "I took you far to desert"? And then he says "And now we're here alone"... it makes more sense, although "I took you for a dancer" makes sense too... what do you think ?

 Hello again,
Everyone's happy posts about 'Smile' have been an utter delight to read and thanks for sharing all your input about this immensely awesome new song . But, having completely passed over the discussion of the apparent 'robbing' of Diego's amazing artwork through all the initial Smile hoopla discussion, I think I need to flesh out my thoughts about this properly.  Now, I'm not faulting/complaining about the choice of artwork they went with during this contest, I just think it's a little suspicious that they would pick THAT piece and not one of 'clearly better by a long mile' Meike/Diego and other JamiroTalkers submissions . In my opinion, this leads my brain to fathom that it could be a sign that this whole contest, at least the portion where they narrowed down the artwork choices, weeding out any apparent copyrighted infridged works out of consideration, and getting to a good dozen of the best works, that it was rushed. Baring in mind ( I know, not a right spelling use, but call it a proper spiteful pun! ) , I'm just thinking/speculating here, but the timeframe that was in play makes me think that J was in a rush OR the label promotions took too long collating all the best pieces and just thumped in front of him at the last minute before leaving for Estonia and J didn't have the proper amount of time to go through them all and pick the proper winner. Anyway, this just continues a pattern of Universal faltering at promotions of RDLS, first it was Debut, then it was album cover thing, then some of the 'perceived curtly worded responses' on Facebook from them to fans, I believe extending from that situation. This post is no intention to disavow that the chosen said artwork that ended being chosen was not good, this is just my thoughts, nothing more, I pride myself in being honest when I can online. I hope you all understand my opinion here and don't take it the wrong way. Cheers!

Nice track indeed. Intro is very nice, but through the whole song main bass and Rhodes lines are not particularly catchy, could be better (my opinion). But from 3:21 things get really good.. Jamiroquai as I haven´t seen from a long, long time. Maybe since synkronized.
Reminds me bits of Michael Franks and Patrice Rushen.

I don't think you will ever know Brent & the artwork is 'no where near as good as Dyegos but it happens to fit the vibe of 'the track very well
The trouble with this is that of course no one knew how it would sound & we would have all submitted summery bright designs. This guy has been very savvy though & submitted one for every occasion as it seems, all 39 of them ( is it?)
saying that I still have Dyego's on my pod 
This track is taking me back to the 70's so much & it has that dreamy & hazey vibe you could only find in a Jamiroquai summer anthem. Just like BYM, YGMS & Butterfly

Absolutely incredible, Jamiroquai's classic sound at its finest, love how funkly smooth it is. Certainly a mystery that it didn't make the final version of Rock Dust Light Star, it sounds like it could easily fit in on Emergency On Planet Earth or Return of the Space Cowboy. |
