this make me thing that a lot of you people only like just the old school jamiroquai......
I don't know... Am I the only one who thinks that FeelSG and Smile are fantastic good songs at the same level (but extremely different) ???

PD: It's not my intention to be spoilsport. I really really like Smile! just feel bad for all the great work that the band make in RDLS. Sounds unfair to me! Sad

A solid majority would kill for the old school feeling to return to their sound. Having it never leave us again -- those original emotions from the first three albums, and, to some degree the 4th album is why we continue to hold on. What can they record next that will make me fall head over heels in love again? If you love the newer, colder, electronic, and overly sexual lyrics to the more relaxed, carefree, and sometimes political content -- that's your choice -- don't knock us.

I love the song. I'd say it's the best use of the female vocalists since Main Vein.

The end of the song is really jazzy. Il like it a lot. But ..... From the beginning to the 3/4 of the song is too much linear.
For me, we are far away from a stillness in time, so amazing.

agreed

Exactly. Also, I think that kind of sound gathers a lot more consensus among the jamiroquai community. I still think the band can do it (especially after watching paleo 2010), not in the same breath as in 1993 - 1999, but still we may hear something sweet. Besides, I don´t think it´s that hard for Jay: some Fender Jazz bass, Rhodes chords, old synths, flutes, sax, and scatting. Preferably recorded with 70´s equipment .. To keep sound raw and pure.

Mr Kay, I understand you wanted to try new fields, rock, pop, yeah yeah .. But next album be old fashioned please!
Thanks

Cool

Sorry men, but I think you're wrong... there's also a solid ammount of people here and out there that really and if I say really I do mean REALLY like S, AFO and D songs. And if you will say that those albums are not quite good (or are bad stuff) compared with EOPE,TROTSC and TW.... I will tell you: sooo why you are here?? waiting for old fashioned music?? what the f***
Jamiroquai is jamiroquai! They will not be what you want to!
If you want to feel something specific, fine! but jamiroquai is jamiroquai.
On the other hand... what do you know about me? about my feelings for this music? you are trying to make a wrong image of me writing fake things.
And let me tell you: if you ONLY like the "relaxed, carefree and the music with political content" then I have news for you:
YOU DON'T LIKE JAMIROQUAI!
Sorry men...

Hi poderfunk,

I respect your opinion, in fact, I love Dynamite album, I like very much AFO, and I agree it's Jamiroquai, and they (or better say HE) can do whatever they do, it's still being Jamiroquai.

And I like it, I liked almost everything they did, I liked what they did with the original formation, and I like what they are doing now. I know it's diferent but I like it.

But there is something I realized recently, something I didn't want to believe, and something I didn't want to hear also. Jamiroquai was different, had another style, before Synk, because of the musicians. Because of the original band members.

I don't want to be disrespectful with Rob, Paul, Matt, etc. I think they are great, I love new Jamiroquai style too. I just bought the most expensive version of Radio Silence album because I'm fan of them too, and I liked what they did.

But the true is that the first 3 albums had something that Jamiroquai lost, a different sound that I certainly prefer to the new one. Yes, I prefer the old Jamiroquai style, the old Jamiroquai music.

It's enough for me to listen to emergency on planet earth, to see the difference, compare this album with the newer ones, there it's! that was the original Jamiroquai were the original members created that perfect formula and sounded unique, new, fresh, outstanding.

Now it's lost. Jamiroquai still does good music, much better than other current artist I think, but it's not what it was, it wont be anymore.

and that is because:

- Nick Van Gelder gave the acid jazz sound to Jamiroquai, EOPE is unique because of him.

- Stu gave the funk! he produced the songs as much as Jay and Toby did, he put these awesome bass lines there, but he never received the credits.

- Toby certainly wrote a lot, and Jay too, buy Jay did house music until he meet the guys of the original Jamiroquai.

the sound of the 3 first albums was perfect and it was made by Jamiroquai, the band. After TWM, Jamiroquai is Jay, and it's how it sounds like too.

5thumbsup Ok, I respect your opinion too. I think you're right in many things. But I still think that FeelSG and Smile are both great songs hahah

Also hearing Smile and Talullah I think: "this songs are similar and have this jamiroquai old vibe"
What do you think?

PD: I get crazy when I hear the bassline in Talullah.. but the B-line in Smile is only good for me.

I think Talullah and Smile are amazing, they shows, along with Dynamite, All good in the hood, she is a fast persuader, and many other great songs, how good is the current formation.

As I said before, I really like Jamiroquai how they are now. It's just about understanding they are different, but still good Smile

While there are songs in the past decade that are good, frankly, this beats them all. Smile is the best song released in a decade, by far.

Let's hope we get more of this before Jason retires.

Javis I agree. I still don't love the new jami, will probably never do...but yes, it's about us understanding they've changed. I guess I'd rather get the crap they release than nothing.

I think they should ditch the backing vocals and bring a DJ back. I hate those corny backers that are put in to help with Jason's aging voice flaws. I heard a recent concert and at first I thought..this is a cover band, a very good one but this is not his voice...then I realized it was! and I was like WTF!

It's an opinion there's no right or wrong. You say Jamiroquai continues to grow and I say no -- that doesn't mean I'm not a real fan -- it means my taste for Jamiroquai is rooted in their classic eras. No one has a voice like J's which is why I stick around. If you don't like fans not embracing the new stuff and saying the old stuff is better I suggest you get over it or ignore posts by others who think or feel like I do.

loving it
Just realized Jquai had smile online... I´ve been bussy so I didn´t noticed the email form jquai.com,

Is amazing! super soft and classy. I recognize Jamiroquai as mature and structured musicians cause they blend those violins with a delicacy worth noticing.
The trumpet is out of this world! is an amazing song.

I feel really good that they have material like this and had the nerve not to put it out with the rest of the album.

I love the fact that all of the band except jay is an original member (well I love and sometimes regret this), but Jquai as a musical proposal has been able to morph and evolve. It has found a way to explore its capabilities and present itself with fresh music.

Damn I love this music.

I get more and more the idea that the 'new' bandmembers (Rob, Paul and Matt) really do want to make old school jazzfunk (like Smile), and my impression is that it's actually just Jay who wants to go in new directions, away from the old style.
You can read it in many interviews with the bandmembers.
For example: many people say that Rob gave Jamiroquai a rock-influence. I think this wasn't Robs choice, but Jays.
You all propably know the youtube-video where Derrick, Rob and Paul are playing the funky Sister Sledge cover "Thinking of you". I get the feeling this is the music they all really prefer, and not the low-fi pop-rock.
Just a thought.. Smile

i totally agree with Jamarcus.
Check out the setlists of the last 10 years.....they ´re playing the classics again and again.
This tour called RDLS but meanwhile they play only 2 songs from this album and only one track from DY........the rest is old school.
What do you think why?
Because this old school stuff is the foundation of JMQ and they knows this, regardless of previous or the current band members.
