THE COST OF HIRING A POP STAR - 24 JULY 2008
Hi everyone, I found this article today - maybe we can all chip in and get £500K so we can have a private party with JMQ (I wish!!!! Laughing )...

The cost of hiring a pop star
By Kate Jackson 24/07/2008

Got a big birthday coming up? Celebrate it in style by hiring your very own star.

More and more big name celebs are available for private hire - and no wonder since performing at parties is proving a nice little earner.

Just last month the Mirror revealed how Mark Ronson trousered a million pounds for one hour's worth of DJing at the birthday bash of pampered 21-year-old Freya Dawson.

And washed-up rocker Robbie Williams was offered £1.5million to appear for just half an hour at a festival in Norway.

So how deep do you have to dig into your savings to tempt your favourite star to perform?

And is anyone up for grabs?

Posing as a fixer for fictional wealthy property investor Stuart Hedges, we contacted several top showbiz bookers to see which celebs would be up for playing at his daughter Alexandra's 21st birthday.

And it's amazing what a few grand can get.

A fan of Rhydian? He's yours for £20k.

But then from Justin Timberlake to Peaches Geldof, it seems there's no one money can't buy...

Shakin' Stevens - £40K

"Shaky doesn't usually do parties," says Angie Becker at Kennedy Street Enterprises.

"He does corporates but I've never known him do a birthday party... it's not to say he wouldn't.

"For corporates, he's around £40,000. Plus everything - the sound, the lights, hotels, all sorts - on top of that.

"You would have to provide the stage, the sound, lights, catering. You'd be talking about 16 or 17 people, but I don't know if it's something we would be able to do."

Lily Allen - £150K

"For a personal appearance, performing live vocal to track (no band), the minimum figure would be £150K, plus travel and accommodation where applicable," says Lily's manager Todd Interland.

Sadly for our fictional birthday girl, Lily's next album could be released in October or January and she may not be able to attend due to promotional duties.

The Prodigy - £250K

Just the band to get our girl's party started - "If you want to be screamed at!" says Susie at William Morris.

"Once things are more confirmed and you've a better idea of what you're after, you can go into the finer details to make sure the young lady gets what she wants. She's a lucky girl!"

Roxy Music - £200K

Before we even got the £200k quote, we were warned by Clare Stone at The Agency Group that Roxy Music would be "eye-wateringly expensive".

And that price wouldn't include production costs, such as the stage, sound, lighting plus the band's riders.

Phew!

Jamiroquai - £500K

Half a million to get Jay Kay to sing, but we'd also have to stump up for accommodation, meals and drinks.

Prue Almond of International Talent Booking says: "Five-star for Jay and the band, crew four-star if they were to stay the night.

"As it's the UK, the crew may not need accommodation, but you should look at the worst case scenario.

"You need to look at a suite for Jay and then 18 king bedded singles for the rest of the party.

"Food and drinks won't be too ridiculous, although you would have to provide what is on the rider - normal dressing room food and drinks really."

Sugababes - £100K

It pays to shop around for your celebs - especially if you need to save 25 grand. We were quoted £75,000 from the Babes' agent Paul Franklin at Helter Skelter but that shot up to £100,000 when we went through Creative Entertainment Group (CEG).

Alexa Chung - £8K

For a DJ set by the TV presenter and squeeze of Arctic Monkey Alex.

Howard Jones - £10K

On top of that there's the PA, rider, hotels...

Peaches Geldof - £7.5K

The Boomtown Brat proves to be a snip at £7.5k.

Kirsty Williams at Insanity artists says: "There'd be transport costs and she usually DJs with her best friend Fifi under the name Trash Pussies.

"There'd be accommodation and if it's a late one they would probably stay up there. So it'd be accommodation and travel for three people with either myself or the tour manager."

Amy Winehouse - £550K

"Management are accepting no less than £550,000 for Amy. That's if she makes it there," warns Mark Cowan from Creative Entertainment Group.

Justin Timberlake - £500K

Even a megastar like JT would sing at a 21st. "As soon as you start talking cash, none of them will rule it out," reckons a lackey from Celebrity Clients.

Take That - £500K

William Morris Agency tells us: "It would be dependent on when it was happening, what they were doing around it, their profile at the time, etc, etc."

Girls Aloud - £250K

"For our artists like Take That and Girls Aloud, there will be tours next year," says Susie at the William Morris Agency.

"The exact dates haven't been 100 per cent confirmed yet, so we don't know when they're going to be free.

"But for Girls Aloud you're looking at the £200- £250,000 mark.

That should give you 45 to 60 minutes, fully live."

More celeb hire prices...

Leona Lewis - £100K

McFly - £75K

Westlife - £150K

Rhydian Roberts - £20K

Beverly Knight - £40K

Human League - £25K

Rihanna - £500K

Beyonce - £750K

Which would make a damn intimate concert for a reasonable price! I am sure that they will do it for a lot less if we say we gonna pay them with a combined budget of all members Smile

I would pay a million dollars if that entailed me dictating the set list and Jay’s wardrobe.

@ Jamarcus tell us what your set list and wardrobe choice would be? (if you have that much cash to spend)

Well, I think I'd have to hire Jamiroquai to actually see them live.

But besides wanting to hire JMQ, I'd hire The Black Keys to play.
Saw them last month, absolutely mesmerized by their music.
But they'd have to play a double set, in case I missed something.

The Prodigy & Roxy Music would be awesome. A year ago I read that you could hire Perry Ferrell, for cheap. Now that would be a trip. Laughing

And I'd only want to hire somebody that'd be cool enough to hang out with. Wink

Wow hadn't seen this one!

Half a million?! Jay doesn't do for any less. Very Happy

It's too good to imagine a private gig for Jamirotalk, with a setlist chosen by us. It would be heaven.

We can all start saving and then we will have a private concert when Jay is about 60 years old. Laughing
