I am an American fan that wants to kick myself for not watching Jamiroquai when they played at a nightclub in 2005 in Boston. I have to admit I only became a huge fan of theirs in the last few years and now have to live with the fact that they won't play live in the US.
Anyway, for those of you that wonder why the band doesn't get any promotion in the US, "Smile" by Jamiroquai is getting 4-5 plays a day on an online radio station called "Radio Creme Brulee" that doesn't spend its airtime glorifying the likes of Pitbull etc. The link to the station is below:

The station actually features a cool mix of 80s,90s, 00s, and today's pop/rock music from both sides of the Atlantic. Obviously, newer tracks get more play. Fortunately, "Smile" is one of them. |

I remember when the Virtual insanity vid was played 5 times a day on mtv. I got hooked on jamiro with that alone. I had to get the album.
When Traveling without moving was released ,I was about twelve years old. I was so excited when I put that album in my walkman. A few years later, I found out jam had quite a few albums before that. I got even more hooked.
Which brings me to my point. They need to start putting Jamiro in more radio stations, music video channels in the us. _________________

I do not trust over-the-air radio station (satellite and internet radio are different) to play anything by Jamiroquai. Here is some interesting information about over-the-air radio. Almost all over-the-air radio in the US is owned by one company. DJs do not get create playlists anymore. Some corporate stooge does. Now here is the part that I find absolutely mind boggling. The stock price of this one company has been steadily rising over the last 10 years. It is the kind of stock chart that a CEO would die for. So what does this mean for American listeners? Here goes:
a. Given that most of radio in the US is crap today, and the company's stock price is rising, they have zero incentive to change ANYTHING about what they do.
b. The crap on American radio will become the benchmark for the new generation of radio listeners.
So do we really expect corporate stooges to play Jamiroquai? I mean, do we really think they are that sophisticated? These are questions to ponder over. |

It all depends on singles. If he releases a new single to the us, he'll do good. "Feels just like it should" was a song that is still quite popular today. Album sales are meaningless nowadays. With itunes and amazon shutting music stores down.
It didn't help how we waited patiently for RDLS, only for it to be pig shit. _________________

pig shit is a little harsh.

"pig shit" made me laugh.. although i guess i wouldn't entirely agree. the album has a lot of merit and it's more of a personal album from jay in his current state rather than a Jamiroquai album.
anyway, 5 years is way too long of a wait only to receive a subpar album. _________________ www.funkfiction.com |

I think it's quite an accomplished album.
I do think the songs are well-written.
But the genre is all over the place.
Perfect.
Sometimes you have to wait, and not get what you expect.
that's life.
It is probably different from what most of Americans (U.S.) would expect.
But may be what they want.
Some artists can crank out an album every single year.
Others, you have to wait longer. Oh Well.

well can I have my opinion. i didn't like the album at all.
the only songs I liked were fast persuader and lifelikne. I really didn't like them that much though. the other songs weren't anything spectacular. Me and mostly all the other fans were hoping for live horns and jazz sections back, instead we get an average album which didn't really deliver. _________________
