I'm not sure when you were born, but they were labeled as Alternative here in the US back in the 90's, so anything they do really isn't a stretch from that. Though, nowadays, I haven't been able to see any of their albums around where I live. So I've no clue what I can find them under if I ever went into a store.

That is so bullshit lol. I'm sorry.

I'm a 90s baby yes, but I have always been mature for my age and I know quite a bit as to how Jamiroquai came to North American soil.

I do know Alternative College Rock in the 90s here in the states was really big and popular, but that's not what Jamiroquai was when they debuted here.

Before "Virtual Insanity", Jamiroquai despite being very successful in Europe, Japan and Australia, as far as America was concerned were unknown.

Unless you were a music collector/guru or DJ etc, "Virtual Insanity" and the TWM album was the first time you heard Jamiroquai here in United States and Canada.

"Virtual Insanity" is very much a bluesy jazzy hip-hop ish song. It's not alternative at all if you ask me.

Being that they are an imported act in a sense, I guess it's "Alternative" in that sense. But they aren't like Smashing Pumpkins or Radiohead or No Doubt. lol.

When people hear "Virtual Insanity" "Alright" "Canned Heat" "Cosmic Girl" all tracks they debuted to United States with, it's very clear they are of R&B/Jazz/Funk/Disco traits.

All artists that are on the pop charts will by default be classified as pop yes, which makes it difficult, but Jamiroquai is much more than that.

I do agree Jamiroquai is and should not be labeled as a Jazz and Funk band, they basically have done every genre you can think of, but I can't agree with you and say that when Jamiroquai was labeled strictly as an "Alternative" band when they debuted here.

I never said "strictly," and I definitely did not state they debuted as such. I'm stating their last known genre to my recollection.

Jamiroquai debuted in the US back in '93. Call it old age, but I do remember watching their earlier videos here when I was a teenager.

If you want, I can honestly tell you that my first experience with them was Blow Your Mind back in '93. It was before many bands were labeled as Alternative. The term itself was constructed to fit many bands like them whose style is infused with many other genres and not just one distinct sound, so I would not be wrong. Jamiroquai did go under Alternative after Virtual Insanity became a smash hit.

Jamiroquai wasn't unknown here in North America or the US if you want to be specific. They just weren't a sensation before '96, but they were gaining in popularity before then. There is a difference.

HoneyBee, lol. Hey look, sometimes a person strolls into a store and hopes they can find some good music. That and the fact that I'm kinda tired of downloading songs. I'd like something physical once in a while.

yes, I partied through the Grunge Alternative scene, (Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice); very depressing!
Jamiroquai were a breath of fresh air! twins TWM was the first album I'd heard, I'm in Midwest.
They were very funky & rhythmic and happy. TWM hit the radio in November/December '96, and official US release in January '97.
that's how I remember it.

Where are Curry & Smellbob from?
I heard early Jamiroquai were played in Cali. But pretty sure not by me.

physical as in cd in hand?
that's what I do. otherwise it's in a virtual cloud of nothingness. I like tangible things. But our music stores are gone, and Target doesn't carry what Amazon does, unfortunately.

That's nothing official, it's just some guy's EP he is releasing where he sampled Jamiroquai. Kinda like how Funk Fiction sampled Jamiroquai in his track Wolf Rayet for the fangame Sonic: After the Sequel.

Looks like this year's curtain call.

Btw technically speaking, virtual insanity is a lyrical hiphop with a R&B melodic structure... So what Very Happy
