Hmmm...
The teaser does nothing for me. Nothing good anyway. I'm annoyed by this blip blop clip.
The comparison with Daft Punk is quite amusing. I remember when Daft Punk appeared on the scene. People said they could detect a hint of Jamiroquai in their music. Now it's the other way around. Amusing. And sad.
However, Feels Just Like It Should sucked big time. But there were some golden nuggets on Dynamite. So I'm not going to judge the coming album by one tiny short clip. I still have hope.
It's quite possible the album is a mix of the eras the fans liked the most. Especially if there is any substance in the rumour that this is the final album. We'll see... by the end of March we'll know for sure.

It certainly is..
I have been crazy busy over on YouTube channel/Jamiroquai subreddit covering all these happenings! Yep, this is very "Not The Funk I Want" meets "Twenty Zero One" musically, I don't mind it at all, futura funk is the way to go in the current modern world of music. That new JK hat is an absolute marvel to behold and I CANNOT wait to see the rest of this first "Automaton" title track music video. Cheers! _________________

Yeah, the little snippet of that new track... pretty weird. Most of it sounds fine to me, but when they cut over to the vocals, it sounds like a very odd transition, strange chords. A bit uneven, like the slow section of Black Devil Car that comes out of left field.
|
I don't think the actual track will go this way, I bet it was cut that way for the teaser... |
I agree - most of it is a slow build-up and then just as it's about to get good, they shut it down with those echo-y keys stuck onto the end.
Has the feeling of an album opener if you ask me. _________________

Hey Jamily,
it's so so so good to see so many familiar (and also new) names here, coming back to my kinda old-skool forum in times of facebook and twitter.
I am really excited about the album news and so far the teaser got me! It's not enough to be dissapointed but good for me to get curious and jazzed!! Can't wait to hear and see more snippets!!
Let's get the party started and fill this forum with good vibes!
I am so looking forward to getting the tourdates and then FINALLY meet some of you in the front row again!

Not sure about all this funk you guys keep talking about, but I definitely recognize that retro synth he's got going in that teaser.
Not everything can be the second coming of AFO and not everything can be the ever so pivotal EOPE. All I want is a strong album and a strong single to kick it all off with. |

Stranger Things
The hole vibe of the clip reminds me of te Netflix hit 'Stranger Things' so i expect more ore less some kind of 80's sound influences.
Nevertheless i hope there will be a tour announced with will come to the Netherlands or close to the border in Germany (Oberhausen?)
Can't wait to here more.

I was thinking "Stranger Things" too!
The weird transition could be coming from a cut or an unusual like in FJLIS.
I love the video and the music! |

Your opinion alone. Billboard number one top chart begs to differ. It's probably one of my fav tracks of Dynamite.
The video to FJLIS is also sadistic as hell and random.

The only thing we agree on is yes that teaser was absolute shit to me.
It sounds like an entirely different artist in a bad way.
I have nothing against electronic music. I love DJ's and house and dubstep all of that.
But since this is Jamiroquai, I would still like their flair and style to it.
That sounded like absolute trash to me, and I'm praying on all the stars the whole album doesn't follow suit like that. _________________

Honestly, C'mon, Jamiroquai has been a completely different band since Stuart left.
They have already done the 'Acid-Jazz' thing and they have to keep up with the current music which, mostly falls in line with the electronic music that is out there now.
I like anything the band puts out, no it's not like the first 3 albums, and probably never will be.
Jay Kay is what 45? and still touring and putting out quality music. He's not a young guy anymore and has a new band. New band means new/different influences. New writing style.
I actually really liked Nick Fyffe, his playing was straight ahead no nonsense bass, and he had good tone. There is some really good live recordings made with Nick.
I believe when Rob Harris and Matt Johnson came along, the band became more guitar driven, and less heavy on the funk bass. And Paul Turner, is a great bass player don't get me wrong, but his tone sounds a bit "tiinnie" and treble-ie, like his puts new strings on his bass before every gig. Us bass players know that you don't need new strings all the time, only for recording. What I am getting at is there is a significant change in the overall "sound" regardless of what style song they come up with or play. And we have to take it for what it is.
We should not speculate what this whole album or songs are going to be like until it has been released.
It is in my opinion just great that we have a new album coming. Hopefully not the last.
and by the way, my least favorite JMQ songs are "King For A Day" and "World That He Wants", and those are still good songs.

Yup. I agree, but I can't help wondering what would have happened if he were still in the band. I do think Jay wanted to do mainstream music, and by the time of TWM, he was already having arguments with Stu about his bass lines for being 'to complicated' |
