There's a shot of an eye in the Automaton teaser that is very similar to an image from the Blade Runner opening titles.
So if A Funk Odyssey was loosely based on 2001: A Space Odyssey, Automaton is loosely based on Blade Runner?
Jay always had a thing for sci-fi and stuff like that (Use the Force? Star Wars?). |

Original or not, I do like the new style direction.
AFO was their strongest time visually IMO, neon colours, touch of the future, cosmic outer space'ness.
Maybe u could argue th strongest time was the early early days, as one fella it it 'the hippie days' (-wotev to that) but my point being.. for me, AFO is an exciting look, and I define jamiroquai with that really.. exciting energy (overall).
By the way that profile image of mine is a cardboard 5ft tall buffalo man cardboard cutout I swagged from HMV in Edinburgh around the time of Dynamite release background is just my fairy lights... _________________ Check out my YouTube and SoundCloud accounts for some mostly experimental quai re-makes (WIP)

This is gonna be cool I can still remember the last time they played on Jo Wiley. I mean a loooooonnng time ago. They played travelling without moving which IMO was one of their best studio performances of that track by a mile.
It was about 10mins I think. Jo commented how making good music is like good sex, anyone remember that? _________________ Check out my YouTube and SoundCloud accounts for some mostly experimental quai re-makes (WIP)

Funk and disco music always had a strong connection to sci-fi in general.
Its not a coincidence disco music and sci-fi movies became popular during the same time period:)
Earth Wind And Fire, Parliament, Marvin Gaye etc. all referenced allot to "outer space" |

That's because the drugs they were taking were putting them in orbit. Not to mention the whole extraterrestrial theme didn't stop at disco or funk music. Bowie? KISS? Any sort of "far off land" that can be thought up was done. |

That's true. EW&F get very spacey and cosmical in several albums/songs. |
