Good to see so many old fans back. Sad to see the same old complaints about new material. Fortunately, someone devised a clever drinking game to make the complaining fun.
I'm sorry to all those fans who wish for the sound of 1993-1997, but here we are 20 years later and the band has moved on - in more ways than one. We still have that classic material to enjoy, and I, for one, am grateful that they have given us yet another album. We can't expect too many more, even if rumors of this being the last are untrue. Enjoy it while it lasts! |

Köszi, sokat ötleteltem, mire megalkottam a tökéletes nicket
The only enjoyable section for me in this new song is that very short bridge part with Rob's funky guitar lick but that's just about 10 seconds long |

Favorite part of the song for me too. Hopefully they'll stretch that bit when playing live!
The song is a grower, for sure. The chorus is catchy.
It could've been named Twenty Seventeen. |

I think the song relies on a bunch of production tricks they've already done over the years, nothing really new there. Bits of White Knuckle Ride, Supersonic, Twenty Zero One etc. make a return. Anthemic but somewhat hollow.
The bridge/breakdown with the rap and rhythm guitar is the best part. The biggest problem is that the song has a very weak hook. It's not a bad song, but not great either. I'm sure there will be a few great tunes elsewhere on the album. |

I really love this song, much better single than the latest since High Times.
The song is cachy and fresh.
I'm like this band most of all because it doesn't get stuck in one style or genre, and once again, they achieved to surprise me and provide good quality music. |

Did you see me anywhere expecting the old sound? Crying over the loss of Stu and stuff? Sorry but things are not only black or white in this world... I had no preconceptions after listening to the teaser but what I heard was well below my standards towards JMQ. No doubt, there are certain parts that I liked like the bridge theme with typical vocals from Jay but during the verses and the rap part I was just sitting in the tub embarassingly which I never felt to this band yet... |

Yeah, that'll be awesome. I really hope that the album will be full of those electronic-funk style songs which were on AFO and this one is just a teaser for the funk-lovers like me _________________ I LOVE JAMIROQUAI |

Where's all the chat? All on the subreddit I'm Guessing?
I've listened to it a few times now.
I think the first reaction of 'i don't like it' that ppl are saying is logical to be expected ---when you are keen on something so much in the past, and you hear something different the potential for shock is high. And let's not forget it has been an extraordinarily long gap since the last, which potentially exaggerates the effect.
My first reaction? No, I didn't like it either.. I even thought the teaser was not good. But after a few listens I liked it more. Why?
The tempo of the song gives the verse vocals a good enough gap line to line for you to digest the lyrics meaning. When I first heard teaser I thought it would be arpeggios constantly to the point that u wouldn't hear many lyrics. So I was pleasantly surprised by that.
Some lines are really nice, some a bit less so? (Can you feel me coming?) you can't fail to notice the alternative meaning. 'Eyes without a face', in classic jay style, this line is spoke softly, as the conclusion of the paragraph, I've always liked that. But I also think, it would be nice to hear this soft tone as the entire chorus. Jays delivery is ... It's good don't get me wrong but a lot of the lines are 'pushed', jay pushing it out. I know it's just his style now, and it used to be different, but I don't know.. Might have been nice just a bit more of,that soft 4th line style for the chorus.
'Au-to-may-Tom'
(The chorus) some ppl have said the chorus is their fave bit, for me I found it a bit gratey, just a bit. This sounds harsh as I write it but I don't know how else to say it. It sounds like how a kid or teenager likes to hear a pop song. In that broken down kind of way.
The arpeggios , the patch is nice enough. Elsewhere I love the other textures, all the voiceboxey stuff, robotic hand, mechanical rotations of arms hands, at least that's how I hear them. I'm looking forward to seeing a visual match in the video. And I like the word 'cold' coming shortly after that sound effect too, it's very complimenting.
There's no solo... But I didn't have any expectations one anyway so...
'I'm automaton' - I'm pretty sure I can hear Derrick utter it one time just at the end of one of the verses. It does not sound like jay.
Overall I like the new picture that this, and the video are painting, it's a new jamiroquai (so far), and so far I think both of those together are a solid package. I also like that the social media/marketing has been quiet in contact, and that the content speaks for itself. The rockstar games approach
Who know what the rest of the album will entail!
And London Camden news! Fantastic! On launch day no less!
Hope some UK heads will be there! _________________ Check out my YouTube and SoundCloud accounts for some mostly experimental quai re-makes (WIP)
