Except Synkronized was good.
Can't get used to the fact Automaton is actually the best track of the album. |

Don't be so negative. There are tracks that are boring (for me Carla, We Can Do It, Nights out in the Jungle), but others sound more than good to me. It's a fresh, modern, electro-disco-funk album, deal with it _________________ I LOVE JAMIROQUAI

I agree! For me, Dr Buzz, Shake it On and Hot Property are the absolute killers _________________ I LOVE JAMIROQUAI |

OK, gave it a quick listen, and I don't want to spoil the album to anybody, so if you don't want to know my opinion on it please stop reading and ignore the rest of this comment.
For those who were hoping a return to the old Jamiroquai or a more organic sound, you might not like this album.
It's definitely a much more electronic approach to funk music than RDLS or Dynamite, and I dare to say, probably more electronic than AFO. But it's FUNKY AS HELL. There aren't ballads on this album, all songs are funky and even the slower songs have a very defined punchy bassline. Also, many songs are influenced by disco music, and sound like modern takes of old seventies songs.
Bass is PROMINENT, instead of the funky guitar we were accustomed to, this time bass drives the rhythm of the songs and guitar makes few appearances.
This is a very cohesive album, not very diverse as previously saw on RDLS or Dynamite. I would say Jay took his time to put together a thematic album with dance-able songs, all within the funk-disco-electronic range.
It definitely sounds strange at first listen, but I also have the feeling it's a grower and that I will enjoying it a lot while driving the car and doing a long trip.
It was just my first impression, probably will be changing over time, but that's what I thought

Well if Dye loves it, it must be gold! Can't wait to hear it (waiting till Friday).
In response to a previous comment on here, I have to say as one of the people who loves "the old sound", a very funky album is for me totally in line with that preference. Sure, I'd love some horns, but what I love most about Jamiroquai (apart from the vocals) are the cool grooves and interesting chord progressions. On those points Dynamite and RDLS were hit and miss for me. But from what I've heard so far (Automaton, Cloud 9, Superfresh and We Can Do It) I'm expecting this album is going to deliver, and I'm so excited to hear the rest in a couple days. |

Ha! Where did that come from?
Unlike the UK and Europe, we don't know when the album arrives here in South America. I had to listen to it. I HAD TO.
Just one listen though. No more. |

Well apart from the fact that I also live in South America, in my city there are no stores dedicated to selling music on CDs, not anymore... they closed thanks to piracy. so there is no way I am getting it at day one . I'm importing it but I also bought it in digital format so I can listen to it while my order is in transit! Oh well _________________ **I'M AUTOMATON**

Last week I asked the record company and a couple of stores but no answer. I checked the receipt from when I bought RDLS and it was 10 days after the original release. 10 DAYS.

My 'track-by-track' extensive 2 part video review of Automaton is coming on Friday but I share my brother Dye's concise thoughts on this album: I ALSO FUCKING LOVE THIS ALBUM! More to come from me on release date so watch my YouTube Channel! _________________

Me too !
I did not listen a track from the album (Automaton & Cloud 9 are still mysterious to me !), I'd like to have the full surprise !
I only want to have a good album from my all time favorite band.
These last days I was worried because of few negative posts. Now, if you Dye & Brent find it fucking lovely, I"m happy. I'll wait for friday with great enthusiasm ! I've got a question : I know it's very early but, according to you, is Automaton the best album since Synkronized ? _________________ "People find it's hard to be strong, cos' they don't know where they're coming from" |

Let me be completely honest.
I've only heard the album once. Full volume, entire room shaking. My expectations were high. Maybe is the adrenaline of the entire week kicking in, but if you ask me right now, I think it truly is their best album since Synkronized/A Funk Odyssey. Certainly centuries ahead of Rock Dust Light Star.
This is the type of sound I love from them. It is just a lot of fun. Every track is a winner. Even We Can Do It, arrives at a precise moment to calm things down a bit. There is not a slow moment in the entire record. I absolutely love it. |
