I agree about the analogue. And I've already argued in favour of the lyricism in earlier posts Very Happy

If you watch/listen to the Italian radio thing from today jay talks about having to get all the old keyboards serviced and made to work properly as they wanted to use them to get the warmth from the analog sound (rather than use protools). They then recorded them onto tape in order to keep the sound as true to the instrument as possible. It was all pretty interesting.

Maybe I am far for your level of understanding guys. I'm quite an old fan from EoPE on. Was quite disappointed after RDLS, it was, for me at least, not really jamiroquaish, only here and there. I just love the groove of this new album, doesn`t matter the modern sound/style whatever, despite I am truly in love with the jazzy/analog sound/style of the first 3 LPs. For me, it`s now back on track, for my taste at least. Can`t wait to see them live!

That's it exactly yeah! Very Happy

I think that's what people were just saying, this one has got a real classic vibe precisely because they've gone for vintage instruments. Still got a new edge on some of it of course, but generally it's very classic in every sense Smile

Also loving the vintage / analog synths. It really makes a difference. And the production is pretty slick on the whole (though I still think some vocals are over-manipulated in places).

Nice and Spicy! Should have been on the album worldwide. Really solid track, cool chords, more interesting synth choices.

I for one always loved the keyboard-focus of Jamiroquai and lamented their turn to a more guitar-centric sound. Loving the return to the keys, and Matt Johnson really kicks ass. He always does such cool stuff when he solos live. And he really knows the Jamiroquai sound now (Smile, Hot Property and Vitamin really capture those unique progressions for me, classic Jamiroquai).

He also says much of the same in this interview http://www.highsnobiety.com/2017/03/31/jamiroquai-highsnobiety-interview/

I have this feeling we fans raise the bar to high in our expectations when it comes to a new Jamiroquai album.

If this same album was released by Bruno Mars or Pharrell, we probable would be praising them for releasing such amazing disco songs that manage to sound retro and modern at the same time, for bringing the funk back to the radio, but since we are talking about Jamiroquai, we are expecting even more, and I think that's kind of unfair. I think this album is great.

I agree. Sometimes reading some of the reactions here on the forum, is like having dinner with a food critic. It's just no fun Very Happy

I personally am enjoying the album very much without trying to judge or compare everything the whole time. In the end, it's music not rocket science.

Dr. Buzz for example is really growing on me the last few days. Can't get the tune out of my head now Smile

The starting of Carla sounds very similar to the song Your Dream Is My Dream by Tortured Soul.

Yeah, I totally agree with you.

I can't stop listening to this album, is lovely, groovy, connected with contemporaneity, both musically and aesthetically... yet people insist to go back and compare it to the stuff from the 90's. With all due respect... it's a waste of time and enjoyment.

On the Matt/Toby thing, why wouldn't we want someone on the same level or better? That doesn't make a lot of sense. He's an inferior live player, producer, and songwriter, and it shows in the songs. If there was only one album after AFO and it had the best of Dynamite, RDLS, and Automaton, I probably would feel a bit different.

Of course we all feel confident to say how amazing Toby was for Jamiroquai, because he's a great musician. There's no doubt about it. But that doesn't stop me of questioning myself... what would he be playing TODAY? AFO was 16 years ago!

Toby definitely did great in the past, but we don't have reference for today. And it takes more than technique to make a good album, it also takes the ability of adaptation and I think Matt and the whole band did great in this new album. The best since AFO, in my opinion.

+1

This is a very interesting point of view, and totally valid.

This reminds me of some years old news of Toby's producing. What I heard wasn't anything like the music he helped create when he was with Jamiroquai. Though that's purely based on the artists he's presenting. Both Matt and Toby are producers therefore I believe both men are very talented!

This is why I made the assertion that neither should be on the same level. Saying such a thing cuts into the other's talent pretty unfairly.

This is the issue with any long running thing - you see it with TV shows or Star Wars; people wanting to recapture their younger days through things being like they used to be. And yeah, it's usually the wrong way to look at it. As the saying goes, you can never go home again Cool

What's far more important is a new crop of young people digging Jamiroquai in 2017, not it being memory lane for oldsters Wink
