Minneapolis lost one of it's concert anchors :(
But hopefully only temporarily. The legendary First Avenue club who's hosted some concerts from some of the biggest names in music past and present (usually when these bands or singers were up-and-coming acts), has filed for bankruptcy and has closed. It might only be closed temporarily, but no one knows if that could be days, months, who knows...
Some of the acts I've seen there over the years: Cake (twice, and the last time a week before the club closed), the Roots, Audioslave, George Clinton and the Parliamnet Funkadelic, etc. etc.
The past years Prince, R.E.M., Rage Against the Machine, and other major acts have played there. For all the band that have performed there, there get a star on the outside of the building saying they've played there. Kinda like a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star.
In recent years it hasn't received as many top acts as it used to, because one of the biggest concert promoters in America (if not the biggest): Clear Channel Communications, which also owns more than half of all radio stations in the U.S., has exclusive contracts to have the artists they represent play at the Quest club in Minneapolis. Both Clubs are nice, but First Ave is the best. Here's the related article on the First Ave closing if interested:

and some memories from people about the club:

P.S.
When I've complained in the past weeks about the Hives cancelling their gig in Minneapolis, that was the reason why. They were shceduled to play at First Ave, but with the uncertainty of the clubs status at the time, that's why they cancelled. _________________ Wouldn't 'ya like...
