Jamiroquai Info: A Journey Behind The Scenes (Part II)
Hello Jamirotalkers,

Remember my 'Journey Behind the Scenes' post? ( http://www.jamirotalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1387 ) Well, I don't know for you, but it's a real fest for me to discover these little details during Jamiroquai life (more than 13 years!). It makes you feel like... you keep learning things of the band you didn't know, and it's kind of exciting if you know what I mean. So here's the Part II of the Journey Behind Jamiroquai:

-During the promotion of AFO, Jay said that the lack of interest in 'Synkronized' forced him to re-examine the project's merits. "In truth, I never really locked into that album, lyrically. I wasn't there. I listen to it now, and I shake my head".

-Jay on AFO tracks: Picture Of My Life is a sad song that talks about my life, about my comings and goings with the drugs, it's a very honest song, I cried composing it. I've wrote it very fast and sometimes it was very hard to use some words. Corner Of The Earth is dedicated to the place where I live, my little Corner of Earth. Feels So Good is a theme of the dance and for the dance, my favorite of the album, and the remixes, you'll love them. It talks about the dream of flying to the Moon, Jupiter or Mars. It's very related to the name A Funk Odyssey and to Space Oddity by David Bowie. I would love that this song would be one of the singles because we would do a great video for this song. Little L talks a history of a love with two kinds of L, the Big L and the lower L, when you love someone or someone loves you with big words or with lower words. Black Crow is based in the terrible war in Kosovo and the refugees of this war. It's a vision that a black crow has recieved the thousands of people hurt by the horror of this conflit, and of the ones, that celebrate the "victory" in Belgrad.

-Jay referring to the old Jamiroquai.com: 'But no one should confuse my official page with www.jamiroquai.com, it belongs to an american guy who thinks he´s me'.

-'Destitute Illusions' was going to be released too as a B-side version containing all the original lyrics.

-Bullet was 9-10 minutes long, according to Jay.

-Travelling Without Moving has become the biggest-selling Japanese album ever by a non-Japanese artist, with one million sales.

-A Funk Odyssey was officially released in the US minutes before the first plane struck the World Trade Centre.

-Little L was written in 25 minutes, according to Jay.

-Jay put a mic in the car to record the gear stick for the beginning of 'TWM'.

-The US version of the album moves "Just Another Story" to the end and replaces it with 'Space Cowboy'. "I chose that original sequence to give the album a certain flow," Kay says. "They [Work/Columbia Records] f*cked it up, plus they added a live version of 'Light Years.' I don't understand it."

-One of the joys of his life was meeting Stevie Wonder at an MTV event. "He was everything that I hoped he would be," Kay enthuses. "I introduced myself and he said. 'Oh, you the one who did "Virtual Insanity." Nice tune.' . I thought, 'Wow, Stevie Wonder knows our tune.' It was like getting a gold seal or something."
In another interview Jay added:
Wonder softly sang "Virtual Insanity"'s chorus in Jay''s ear and confessed, "That tune -I really like that tune." "I was nearly in tears I was so chuffed," said. "'cause I thought: f*ckin' eight years of work and people say, 'You want to be like him.' And he actually digs the shit." Wonder later suggested in print that he had an unrecorded song for Jay, and allegedly gave him permission to record Innervisions' "Golden Lady."

-David was the name of his twin brother.

-Jay's record company said that the AFO hat was not to be seen until he's worn in it in his promo.

-The band recorded 20 tracks for Synkronized and the best ten got on. "Not personally MY best ten," admits Derrick. "But the record company's and Jay's best ten." (Note: thanks to Snorry for finding this article)

-Jay recorded 'Do You Know Where You're Coming From' on demo as a favour for a mate, but was then shocked to hear it played on Kiss FM off the demo tape. In fact, when he heard it, he freaked."What's that?"It shit me up! It's a demo vocal! Now I was angry. Someone had put it out and forced me into a position where I didn't want to do it. Somebody had taken liberties!" But people liked it so he recorded a proper version and it was released with some trepidation.

-During early 2000 Jay said: 'We are working first on a new single called 'Synkronized', which isn't on our album. It'll be wicked! (Note: I put this one before but I found another article where he talkes about it).

-Jay's studio it's called Chillington, appropriately, because they spend most of the day like that, chilling.

-Jay cut his head open on the last shot of the 'Canned Heat' video.

Hope you enjoyed that! And wait for more, cause I'm already working on a third part of this post.

So there you go, byebye
