I thought of Montreux 2003 and in particular of Soul Education. I know that you already spoke about it, Edgar, but I wanted to add that for me it's the best vocal performance of Jay, he goes up so high in the trebble ones and which breath. And in Alright, his voice and his way of interpreting is so sensual that I am upset by it each time.

Remember he had some mistakes in Soul Education... but i think the Montreux Jazz Festival 2003 was the best concert in the last years... obviously Verona has the DVD, but the Montreux was exceptional!!! and of course Jay's voice was spectacular... and Shoot the Moon was incredible... ufff what can i say?? when i saw the video i was so excited of seeing Jay moving in that way.. and A NEW SONG?? that was just unbelievable!!!

I think Jay is responsible of his voice changes.... I think it was cocaine.. and surely tobacco and joints... JAY TAKE CARE OF YOU CRAZY! :p

yeah i marked it too, but i don't undrestand how he could lost his voice;if we take exemple on prince althoug he'is about 42 he has kept his voice by practicing everyday( "kiss" is the perfect exemple of a worked voice).
how many time hasn't jay sing " too young to die live"? THE ANSWER is probably that this song has become a little bit hard for him.
fortunatly nothing is impossible and jay can recover it if he stop smoking and spiting out like in " live verona live" Laughing

yes, the guy is loosing his voice, but I probabilly would have had the same life style he had if i were a rock start too. So I don´t blame him becouse of that. drug is part of his bussiness, you know.

I agree when you say that drugs are part of his business, but i think it's not the main factor... another singers, like the 70's Salsa singer Hector Lavoe, destroyed their voices, and beautiful voices for the exagerate consume of drugs... and Jay don't consume a lot of drugs everyday... i think the main factor is his AGE!!! he's not a baby, he's 35 years, and a month left to become 36, so i think it's his age, plus, he's 15 years or more in this business... wow it's a long time... and he sing a lot of times on each tour... AND he stills sings great!! this guy's doing a nice Job, of course he's not going to have his voice from the first album, but if he stills sings, that's important..

Jay Kay smokes, consume drugs (and it's not all the time, eh?), and he drinks like a mad... and if we add his age, wow... you have a senior...

JAY KAY YOU'RE THE MASTER!!!!

don't most singers these days change in pitch and tone throughout the years? it's hard to tell how much of it is due to environment and lifestyle, and how much is a genuine result of a maturing voice. his voice may change through time and i do miss those goosebump-inducing falsettos, but as long as the quality of his music today still stands unrivalled, i'll remain a happy camper 2bouncy

hi Davina.
I must disagree with You, I'm sorry. Cause you see, a voice may change in natural way in few cases, like hormones for ex. but this is much more probable for a female voice. any other change would be a mechanical affect on the chords (in the larynx),this may be singing in technically wrong way (that doesn't consider Jay), or all the other mentioned. Age has little to do with that. Nature has proves of it, like mentioned Stevie Wonder....
