Jay and the songs that sounds like...
Hello Jamirotalkers,
You know how much Jay admires other artist, right? So I started to hear carefully most of the songs and I realized that a lot of them sounds like... songs from the artists he likes... (hey, I am not talking about plagiarism). And I am not the only one who thinks this, a lot of journalists too (don't get me wrong, I hate journalists and paparazzis and that kind of people).
For example, 'Here's to you' by Skyy, in some parts sounds like 'Canned Heat'. 'Black Capricorn Day' reminds me to 'Superstition' by Stevie. The beginning of 'California Dreaming' (Jose Feliciano's version) is 'Black Crow'! And Jay said one time that 'Life On Mars' by Dexter Wansel is the kind of track he wants to achieve. And I think he tried to do that on 'Feel So Good'.
You can listen the Lalo Schifrin's influence on 'Twenty Zero One' and that Mission: Impossible's kind of feel.
Let me tell you this are only my opinions, and I am not saying the entire song is just like it, I think some parts sounds the same.
Jamirotalkers, what other songs sounds like...??

The beginning of the song 'Life on Mars' of Dexter Wansel sounds like Everybody's going to the moon!! _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

Hey there,
Yes Edgar, you're right... also 'Feel So Good' has a similar beginning to 'Life on Mars'... I don't blame him, it's a great song!
What about 'Getinfunky'? I think that song made only by synthetizers doesn't sound like Jamiroquai at all! Those video game noises makes it an interesting track. Is not the best JMQ, but a good experiment.
'Everybody's talking about the kids!'

And not only getinfunky Diego... Destitute Illusion also seems to be a videogame soundtrack... that song seems to be like the songs of the old game Top Gear of Super Nes... _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

Hi!
Soul Education's 'main riff' resembles a lot of Isaac Hayes' Shaft -riff. Luckily, they still are different kind of songs by feel and sound scheme. But still. _________________ kite carrier (geuze)

This happened the first day of class, last term at uni.
It was a sociology class and we were talking to each other during a break. I wasn't in the mood to socialize, so I grabbed my cdplayer, put on the headphones and started listening to the EOPE album. I was listening to Music of the mind when the guy next to me asked what I was listening to. 'Jamiroquai' I said. 'Oh, never heard of him' said the guy. 'Well, it's a band' I told him and gave him the headphones. Then he started laughing.... I didn't what to think so I asked what was so funny... He kept laughing and then said 'Man, does this guy makes music for porn movies??" ... I was shocked. A few minutes later everybody knew the story and suddenly I became the guy who listens to porn music. Sadly this experience has changed forever the way I listen to "Music of the mind".... Now, I try not to play it cause I can only imagine a porn movie and can't enjoy the song anymore.
Now let me ask you, does 'Music of the mind' sounds like porn music to you??? _________________ We're going to a funktion yeah yeah yeah |

Whaat? Did they say that it was particularly Music of the Mind with the porn thing? And why? It's an instrumental! I can't understand. And NO the song does not sound like anything like that. But I wouldn't know, I am not an expert in music used in porn films :p But I must say, the song is one of my favourite Jamiroquai songs, one of the most talented and my favourite to play with piano/keyoards also. _________________ kite carrier (geuze)

You gotta admit Jamirobeto, that's one funny story. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. ......i just had that happen to me ..it was the first time playing eope in my car just a week ago...and im listening to it in what I think is a normal volume level in the parking lot of a mall while my sis went to pick up some baked zitti.....well......she came back and told me to turn it down "sounds like porn music!" ...and that i had some people starring at the car lol ...now i do listen to it differently ...I had to admitt that yes it sounds like porn music and now I can't ever play it around if she's around lol .......i think its the beat and the bass early in the song that gives it that "porn music" effect lol... |
