Simon has a few writing credits, namely 'Drifting Along' on TWM; however, Rob Harris influenced AFO far more than any other guitarist has any previous Jam album: he co-wrote 5 tracks. [Guitarists Irwin Kelles and Gavin Dodds also served as studio musicians for the band on and off until 1999 - exactly which songs they played on is hard to discern, although the Synkronized booklet credits Kelles on 'Canned Heat.']

You didn't see a lot of him except during the live shows. A funny thing: In the TWM liner notes, he gets some 'thank you' space to shout-out people, but isn't in the band picture in the middle of the book!

In my opinion, I think Harris wipes the floor with him. But that's just me. Wink

Gavin Dodds ..yeah he played some live gigs, one example is the Funky Paradise concert..nothing amazing,

About Simon, my complete respect and thousand bows at him, honestly, even though Harris influenced the band "more", it's cos nobody else did, he came with a guitar to compete with a band with nothing else in mind but electronics, and J fell in love with it, he forgot that there are other instruments (to the point of vocalcording his basslines!)

Simon Katz always performed greatly, and even though he didn't actually "compose" many songs or is being credited for it, he did play some great tunes and, live, he didn't disappoint, I mean, being next to great mastesrs like Jay, Toby, Derrick, Sola and Stuart and still shine, is something worthy of respect.

I agree with my man Diego, i prefer him a thousand times before ROCK Harris

Mr. Simon Katz was great, no doubt.

Mr. Rob Harris is great too. The AFO contibution and swing in direction is good for Jamiroquai.

I wouldn't like to think that all the changes of band members are the result of bitchy tensions. The could be the sub-concious developments of the need to change, grow and move across the different genres that wander not too far a field from the lucious meadows of acid jazz.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but the most commonly used and most accurate musical categorization of Jamiroquai's music (albums) is acid jazz ???

Thank you, :-)))) h.

AFO contibution <-- good direction? please in what world are you in, you gotta be livin' with that other forum guy in Siberia!
Rock Harris' contribution was a lot of guitar (which isn't bad, but it was too much) and far from a jazzy guitar which would've brought a different sound to the abnd, perhaps the rockiest guitar I'd accept in JMQ is TWM and it had HEAPS of basslines to contrast, not the case in AFO

Acid Jazz = Rock? <-- nah I doubt it and if you listen to acid jazz it differs A LOT from the AFO jamiroquai

Ed perdona broder! Se me fue ponerte Diego, será que te veo cara de Diego! ja ja, unforgiveable

What was the 'official' reason that Simon left the band?

exactly, that's the same i think.... Jamiroquai didn't take any good direction with Rock Harris on AFO, it was worst, a terrible direction. The guy is doing a great job, but there's TOOOO much rock guitars in the music... and his solos are very different than Gavin or Simon's ones...

No te preocupes man... hehehe todos nos equivocamos! estamos en contacto! saludos por alla!

That's what different taste's percieve and demand.

Each time I see a Jamiroquai audio advertised it very rarely has the same classification. And I wasn't being specific to AFO, I meant in general - but then *** with a sigh of relief *** there is no general bag to plop Jamiroquai's music into.

This is just another story of how beauty is in the eye of the beholder !!!

Please Jamirowolf, just because you cannot tolerate let alone try to appreciate my opinion doesn't mean you can classifiy me as a country bumpkin.

And yes, I do live in a very isolated place in the middle of nowhere and long for civilisation as I used to know it.
