Recording of 'Dynamite' in LA
Hello Jamirotalkers,

As we get closer to 'Dynamite', I thought it would be interesting to transcribe some things Jay said about the recording of the album. The scan of this article is from Tense magazine of November 2003, so... long time ago. I put the most important bits where Jay talks about it.

"The plan with the next album is to spend the best money on the best engineer in the business. That means going to the states and seeing what the yanks can do"

"They don't f*** about over there. Anyway, I've had to shake things up a bit"

"We've split -amicably- with Nick. He's gone on to pursue other interests and Toby left about 18 months ago"

"If I could get one track of mine to sound like Dexter Wansel's 'Life On Mars' then I will have achieved exactly what I set out to. Of course, I'd update it sound-wise. I really don't listen to anything new but that Beyoncé track, Crazy In Love, is as superfly as it gets".

"Anyway, you see over there in the States. A great engineer will give you a different sound and a snappiness that you just don't get over here".

"That's why Im going to America. These people, hardcore musicians, are out there. There's so much more of a big quality pool to dip into. Next year (2004), I'll be going out there for a month, probably to LA. We're doing all the groundwork now. Once the tracks are written it's easy. Before I get there or maybe while I'm there. I'll start handing out tracks, who knows I might give one to the Neptunes buy they'll probably want five (publishing) points and 400 grand! Nah, but I hear they like my music, so they'll probably settle on 250 grand and three points! (laughs)"

"Naw, I'm just going to hand them out and see what happens and that's a different way of working for me. Toby's gone, Nick's gone and now is time for a change"

Sounds like a lot of movement for one album, so I'm even more excited to hear it, like he really intended to make a different sound, I hope it is for the best Wink .

'Sometimes I think the music is the only hope we have for revolution'

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

AH! The memories of the coarse JK blurbs in that interview! Wink Thanks for the remindar post Brother Diego, really ripens my mind for the upcoming Jam Wink! Smile Especially the comment about JK wanting to make a new song that sounds like "Life On Mars", that might be quite a feat and challenge to attain Smile. LOM is such a rich and layered track, I just hope JK doesn't do full-blown copying! Thanks again Diego, thanks for listening and Peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000
