RED DRAGON
Hi Jamirofan2000,
you were mentioning "RED DRAGON" in your post yesterday.
You made me won my bet: I saw the commercial yesterday and swore to my husband that we already watched this film on TV. I could not remember the title "Manhunter", though.
I saw the second film HANNIBAL and was disapointed. (Each time I think of it, I have a strange feeling up on my skull...)
OK, it was impossible to match the quality of the 1st "SILENCE OF THE LAMB" and I missed Jodie Foster too much.
How would you rank RED DRAGON? _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

hmmm, which movie has impressed me the most lately. i think, i have to say 'Amelié' even though it is already kinda old (about two years now?)
i love this movie. it's a masterpiece in story-telling. and using special effects in such a distuingished way to tell actually a love-story is so fantastic.
the first time i watched this movie was last december in the US. it was the original french version with english subtitles, so i spent most of the time reading instead of watching the movie. ;)
when i came back to germany, i bought the dvd and watched it dubbed in german. it brings tears to my eyes everytime i watch it (okay, i'm basicly build on water, so that doesn't take much)
another movie, that has me impressed was definitly 'Lord Of The Rings' and i am counting the days till the second movie is released.
and even though it is not releated to this topic (not really, at least) does anybody else thing too that it is a bummer, that ms. keating is not even writing on Harry Potter 5 yet? she mentioned in an interview that she hasn't even started yet! i want to know how the story goes on... _________________ Dear Auntie Em. "Red Dragon": The most conventional HL movie!
Hello, :bm_b:
I would rank "Red Dragon" maybe the second best HL movie, though it's a remake, but a very good remake! "Silence Of The Lambs" will always be my fav HL movie, such a amazing performance by Sir Hopkins, yeah, his performance was flawless in RD, but I will forever remember the character in the SOTL! Thanks for listening and the usual props to CosmicMouse N' Bear! Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000
The best JK Picture in the world!!!
New Jay Kay pic I found from the past!

JAMIROFAN'S THOUGHT OF THE POST
-----------------------------------------------------------
I wonder if JK would ever do a movie with Sir Hopkins.
Maybe in a relationship movie, J could make his film
debut as a prospective husband of Hopkin's daughter,
and it turns out Hopkins and his wife are cannibals and
try to have JK for lunch...on second thought, that would
stink...sorry for the wasted thought!

The last movie I saw was "About a boy" with Hugh Grant and it was better than I expected. It's more than a little 08/15 love film. Although it's a light film it has the typical englisch humor and takes sometimes surprising turns and sure Hugh Grant is brilliant in his role. (And he looks much better with short hair ) The best scene is when he stays on the stage with his little friend and sings "Killing me softly" and plays the e-guitar - you have to love him in this scene!!! |

Nice ideas
Hi Jamirofan,
Now I have a better idea about "Red Dragon". I saw that there was a nice bunch of actors playing (Emily Watson?). I will surely go.
Mmmmnnnhh.... JK on the grill, spiced will all those nicely fragrant herbs from his garden he's been using all those years.. what a taste!.
Where do you get all those terrific ideas in your "thought of the post"?
Hey CosmicBear,
I am so glad you enjoyed "Amélie" . This movie appealed to me so much. Although it is full of stereotypes about my home country, it is so heartful and human.
The music is so good too and matches the atmosphere so well. Accordeon was THE instrument to underligne this old-fashioned, original and "carpe-diem" style of the story. I had to cry too, but it is not sadness, it was just being moved.
I am not exactly counting the days until the part two of "Lord of the Rings" comes at the movies, but I will certainly watch it during the 1st week of its release in German ... and then in English. I just love the voice of the actor who plays Gandalf. I read that Ian Mckellen originally is a shakesperian theater actor. Do you know the exact date of the film release in Germany?
Hi Butterfly
I share your views on "About a Boy". I had to drag my husband to the movies with a guilty feeling because I was expecting only easy entertaining. It turned out to be an english film "just-like-we-like-them", mixing both funny and desperate situations, with a deep reflexion on life.
I found the subject quite original because the film focuses on this relationship between a grown up and a child. They seem to have so little in common but they actually turn out to help each other out off their personal difficulties. I really liked it. _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

I saw Bend It Like Beckham a few months ago. It's a really sweet film, set in Hounslow (not too far from here), about an Indian girl who wants to play football for a local ladies' team, but her parents don't think she should be playing. She also falls for the team coach (played by the *absolutely spanking gorgeous* Jonathan Rhys Meyer!), but her friend likes him too. There are some amusing moments, and the characters are very believeable. It's not the best film made this year, but it's nice to watch for a bit of romance and comedy. Better to go and rent it than spend money seeing it in the cinema.

Hi Ezbe,
you wrote Bend it like Beckham. Is this the original tittle?
Here in Germany, they call it "Kick it like Beckham". Must be some obscure football reason...
Tell me something: The park where the Indian girl plays football for fun with her male mates. Is it Hounslow, Ealing .. or somewhere else?
I see we share the same taste about J. Rhys-Meyer. The meere mentioning of his name makes me shiver . Arrrrhhhh. Doesn't he look sexy! He looks very gay and very sexy .
Have you watched him in "Velvet Goldmine" and in "Ride with the devil"? _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

I agree with you CosmicBear about THIS English accent. I was glad to understand it .. not like those interviews on the Ealing documentary. _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

Yes, it's called "Bend It Like Beckham" here. Refers to David Beckham's amazing skill at curling a ball into the goal.

Not too sure, looks like a place I've been to in Hounslow, but I don't know the parks in that area. Could be Ealing, Uxbridge, Hayes, anywhere like that.
It always pleases me that people from other countries enjoy British cinema so much. I quite like foreign cinema, even though it's all subtitled here! Especially French and Italian films that they show late at night on Channel 4. Cinema Paradiso is one of my absolute favs.
Almost forgot to mention J R-M! What a babe! I've not seen either of those films you mentioned, Sunrayvibe. I will probably make the effort to watch Velvet Goldmine because Ewan McGregor is in it too, and he's also gorgeous!
J R-M was in a show here on the BBC called Gormenghast, which sucked, but he looked so great I watched it for a bit. He looks better with short hair, though.
Anyway, onto other films. Did anyone see this year's "Sleeper hit" My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I saw it last week, it was a good, fun film and full of laughs.

Thanks for the infos Ezbe.
Now I am going to show off with my football knowledge in front of my husband, because he likes football very much.
As you mentioned, movies are such a nice way to discover the singularities of other cultures.
I like the subtitled versions because it brings the true flavour of it. In Germany, they do not show original version of films too often on TV. Too bad.
In Velvet Goldmine, JRM plays a .. music superstar. A weirdo one.
In Ride with the devil, he plays a desperado. A very mean one.
The movie you mentioned "Greek wedding" has not come out yet in Germany. Sometimes it takes a long time to get a foreign film (especially the independant ones) released here. _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is an American film, made on a small budget. It wasn't given a huge release in America at first, but people who went to see it told others and soon it became very popular, so it was shown in more and more cinemas. Then it released here a few weeks ago. I don't know exactly how film distribution works, but I should imagine it would be shown in other european countries soon. The humour and story of the film isn't typically American, and should appeal to a wider audience.
And while I'm here typing about films yet again , anyone gonna see xXx? I saw a trailer for it, it looks exactly like a Bond film. Might be worth watching though.
