from the 14 secs...
sounds good to me .... I think it's understandable that Jamiroquai has changed like any good artist does...they evolve. I think it's nice to get a lil change in the music, even if it may take some time to get to used to. |

So which part of my quote conflicts with yours? Did you actually thought what you wrote?
Music bussiness works this way:
1- He makes music
2- We buy his music, we attend concerts
3- He makes money
Got that? You harm step 2 then step 3 got harmed too...
and losing older fans is harming step 2 seriously my dear, not that I'm gonna lose any sleep
Keep an eye on the jamline mailing list, arguments between fans on this same issue are getting as bad as here, so definitely, "step 2" mentioned above is getting harmed.

Firstly i am an older fan and I'm fully aware of what i wrote, thanks anyway. I'm also fully aware of how the music industry works through my occupation. I hear about it and see it first hand on a daily basis, so i didn't need a walk me through crash course. I'm not a musician, but i work with many, and i do have eyes and ears.
I'm just not conceited enough to think that it's simply because of me that [ insert whatever musicians name here ] lives a good lifestyle. That lifestyle comes from being gifted enough to be able to produce something wonderful that others break their neck to hear, see or be a part of in the first place. Correct me if i'm wrong, but they've done that, yeah? Hence him being able to indulge himself in fine cars, beautiful women, and all the other luxuries things in life.
As fans, where you and i differ is, i consider myself lucky to be a part of it. I don't think they owe me anything, and i'm quite happy to know that it's been the bands hard work and talent that have got them where they are - not me. If they sucked i wouldn't have chosen to buy their stuff. Round we go again!
Back to the point at hand - so yes i did think about what i wrote and it's still a choice as to whether you want to indulge in someones art or not. That wasn't a polite way of telling you to shut up by the way. It's pretty much a given that most things in life are a choice. |

After listening to the sample of FJLIS dozens of times by now I can see why it's causing such a divide between you guys. Admittedly at first I was under-whelmed by it, it doesn't seem to show three years of hard work, BUT it is a real grower, that riff is irresistable, the element of funk is still there and it more than hints at Deeper Underground, which let's not forget is still Jami's only #1 in the UK to date However Jay's voice does sound screwed on it
As for the sample being 14 seconds it's gonna differ for each person. I listened to 14 seconds of EOPE and it's not the same as the experiencing the whole thing The sample ends in a bad place for me too, I really want to hear the rest of the chorus before judging it
The whole "they aint what they used to be" got me thinking. On a music channel a few days ago (mtv dance for you guys in the uk) they played three Jami vidoes, Love Foolosophy, Little L and EOPE - the difference is apparent but I can honestly say the AFO tracks are as good as the earlier stuff - it's evolved with the times but has't got worse in the process. Unfortunately not everyone will agree but it's down to personal taste I guess
Oh yeah the full download is availale tomorrow isn't it??? |

Mmm.. nope is not, actually. That March 21st date is no longer listed in the official site (the day after they posted that was taken off). Also, the release date changed, like you all know, to June 21st. So I think the full download will not be available tomorrow. I hope Im wrong.
Back to the (long) topic:
I think is great to let people know about our opinions. The thing is when someone likes Jamiroquai so much, and another one speaks bad about the band, that's when we start to defend ourselves.
And that's when the community gets divided.

War, Peace, and a 14 second clip of music...
To put things into perspective, it's easy to see why there are so many wars going on around the globe when we all start bashing eachother over a small clip of music. It's a good thing we don't have access to 'the button', if you know what I mean?
I tend to believe people get a bit too passionate about things that really pale in comparison to more important things in life, but I fully understand as I use to be totally absorbed in things way back in my early twenties that I could care less about now. That's life I guess. |

I mean I don't really understand people getting all huffy about this clip. Have we really taken Jamiroquai so personally that any problems we express about a song is a personal insult?
BUT to add my two cents... this song sounds pretty bad to me, I hate to say it. I've been counting the days till the download, and now that we get only a piece of it I'm tremendously disappointed. I have to say I haven't lost all hope, because I think Black Devil Car sounds pretty good.
I'm listening to it as we speak, and here's my only thing really: What we're hearing might just be the lead up to the chorus, and not the real verse... does that make any sense? I don't know. I've got to say I think it is over-produced and really just silly. I don't think I expected anything quite like this. |

Where did the lyrics go....?
I think the thing I've been most disappointed with, style and personell changes aside, is the song writing. I'm not saying Jay should write about recycling and saving the whale and monkey populations all the time, but those magical lines he would come up with are fading. From what I've heard, Jamiroquai used to win awards for songwriting.
It really hit me when I heard "Little L", which to this day for me, has to be the least inspiring lyrics Jay's written to this day. Painfully simple, although the tune was catchy! |

It does not sound like Jay Kay's voice. I think someone opened his Magix Music Maker to have to some fun...
I think it's a fake - so let's wait until the whole single is published and we'll see. |

I was skeptical if it was Jay at first also, but when I listened to it a few times and the part where he says "I need a little sugar spice", I could tell it was his singing style. That part convinced me.
That would be a pretty expensive fake. |

Yeah, for sure man
But songs like Twenty Zero One on Funk Oddessy still had some prety good lyrics. I guess he's just not into saving the population anymore... _________________

Yes. I totally agree with that !
The melodie itself is not bad. But they put so many effects on Jay´s voice, that it totally lacks the kind of "crystal-clearness" it had when he was in his mid twenties.
It was mainly because of this boyish voice of his that I fell for Jamiroquai´s music.
But please can anyone tell me why they had to do that ?
Is his voice that f...ed up ?
I mean , in that song it is almost unrecognisable...
That´s a pity. |

he cant sing as high like in 93,but he still has a great voice(montreaux2003),this first single was just a tune created to be a hit and go on the charts,thats why they decided it for the first single;
i like much more the "black devil car" sample.. _________________ "on the bass st.st..st..stuuu zender!!" |
