this album certainly has a relatively deviant style to it, along with AFO.

i bought the album for 'canned heat' but shortly after, it was Soul Education that quickly caught on, with the others quickly in tow.

Supersonic took a while to grow on me... not being too exposed to drum n bass music at the time, it was too hard-sounding for me. but then it started getting catchy, reason being it just sounded so... wierd.

'butterfly' was also one which i slowly but surely felt attracted to, despite me not being able to find out why. still can't put my finger on it... that's the case with me and loads of other jami songs. as meike very aptly said, their music is indeed quite undescribable.

i really don't want to say anything about King For a Day... Rolling Eyes

when juxtaposed with all the other albums, this one doesn't seem too impressive.

but as an album by itself, Synkronized really holds out on its own. i know that because it was the first jami album i ever bought. Smile

Thank you Function for bringing back this poll to my attention!
The funny thing is that I listened to the whole album just last evening and I still do not understand why "Synchronized" is so often rated as the least good album of Jami.

I call this album "The American album".
One of the reason is that it was released in 1999 when Jami played at the woodstock festival.
The other reason is that I consider the inspiration of some tracks typically American.

"Canned Heat": This track brings back the glorious days of Disco and Quincy Jones, when violins and strings were a typical sound of disco tracks. By the way, I would vote for "Canned heat" as best dancing tracks.
Yes, Mrs Moon, my 5-year old niece love5 loves the video too.

"Planet Home": I agree about the originality of the sound but when I listen to the vocals, it reminds me of the airy melody style of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen.

"Soul Education": Once again the typical strings for a track which has a little "S. Wonder" touch. The lyrics maybe?

"Black capricorn Day": THE US track at its best.
Spacevinny, you mentioned "Superstition" from S. Wonder. I never thought of this but you are god damn right. good
For me, I would say that they used strings and brass in a particular "Shaft" manner. The video itself is an hommage to these US films from the 70's with those impressive car pursuits in the street of the city.

"Butterfly": From the first notes of this track, I thought it was going to be a duet with ... 2shocking Barry White. No kidding 2listen , listen to the back vocals. The style and the topic are so close to what Barry White usualy sings.

"King for a day": I just love that track and consider the piano and the vocals coming from a true Wonderian inspiration. It has the serious and dramatic depth of this great song from S. Wonder: "Part time paradise".

"Supersonic" is so original. Mixing Didge and electro is such a good idea Idea .

"Deeper Underground": What One more Eek Jamiroquai plays heavy metal. I needed a while to get used to this song and I under-rated it for years because it was just a OST song.
I guess I recognized the efficiency of it only last year when I heard it played live by Jami at their Berlin concert. They had a special system for the bass which made the whole ARENA vibrate: it really rocked my pants. fire jump

To make a long story short:
I like "Synchronized" very much. I consider it is a very original album and as a successful attempt to change the music direction of Jamiroquai.

So now 2scratchchin , which track should I vote for.

You forgot Falling - it's one of my favourites (but not the only one) It's really hard to vote for one of those songs Rolling Eyes

Smile Hi Butterfly 4butterfly, I did not intend to draw an exhausting list of the tracks.

Although I did not mention "Falling", I like this song a lot because it gives back this the blues sad mood of a dying love that JK describes.
"Where do we go from here" is also very good.
It is like "Butterfly". I cannot tell that I crave for Barry White, but I like the song very much too. I find the lyrics well written. JK found the right delicate words to describe such an intimate situation, without sounding vulgar. That's a masterpiece! good

Duet with Barry White - I love this imagination LOL But it would sound great!!
I agree totally with you concerning the lyrics of Butterfly (that's why I chose my nickname Rolling Eyes )

I remember when this album came out, and most people thought it wasn't as good as TWM (ha!). I was one of the doubters. But, if you listen to it every so often, it's actually a fantastic album full of wicked tunes.

Canned Heat was a brilliant first single. Soul Education, Falling (which I fell in love with the first time I heard the opening bars) and Where Do We Go From Here are 3 of the most underated Jamiroquai songs (Listen to that bass line on WDWGFH, pure funk or what!). Soul Education should have been a single. Apart from Destitute Illusions and Supersonic, every song on that album is worthy of praise. For what they had to do in a short time, it's unique, sharp and a true slice of Jami history.

I still love TROTSC first and foremost, but Synkronized has really grown on me since its release.

It's true. The more you listen to it the more you like it. I never liked "King for a day" but now - after listen to it very often I still love it.

I have problems with the TWM album. Maybe I should start and listen to it again and again and again and..... somersault

i actually felt, that "Synkronized", was an UNDERRATED album! Sad people, had such negative feelings about it, due to it being such a swing away/a different direction from the original sound of jamiroquai!

people were so used to listening to the classic, unique and acid jazz style of jami & NEVER really thought jami could use other music genres, for their specific audience, i.e. their fans. BUT change was/is inevitable, right? i actually like, "Synkronized"! Smile just listening to those wicked tracks like, "Canned Heat" (good choice, to release as a first single!), "Soul Education, "Supersonic", "Where Do We Go From Here", "Falling" (a bit narrative, but i still like it, because of JK's wonderful singing! Embarassed ) makes, "Synkronized" worth listening to & the cover of the album was very enivronmental related & had the buffalo guy in an awkard, weird BUT good position (kinda stretched out!!!-the overall cover.) it was different from the other first three albums, in (terms of) the layout of the buffalo man (first three albums, have the buffalo man centred in the middle! (exact middle)).

hearing the wonderful vocals of mr JK, on the track, "Butterfly" for the very first time encouaged me to fall in love with it. Embarassed

the way J sings on the track is soo beautiful & delicate, esp. at the end when he sings, "lalalala-la-la-la-la............lalalala-la-la-la-la....ooo, ooooo little butterfly, won't you come back to me" beautiful song, people! Smile i love it! P.S do you think, this song would of suited well on, a love compliation cd? yes? no?

P.S *sniff* *sniff* Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad why can't i VOTE for my fave track on "Synkronized"?

Very Happy Right Queen of Funk.

"Butterfly" would suit so well on a 5heartbeat compilation CD.

Stella, please try it again... I changed the settings. SpaceVinny - who created this poll - had limited the time to vote for only 7 days... now it is endless. You can only vote one time and you have to be logged in.

Let me know if it works now! Wink

OK, I was wrong about "Synkronized" :(
buffaloman_R Hello, :bm_r:

After giving "Synkronized" another listen, I was wrong in the previous thought. "Syn" sounds very much like a American album, in being all dance N' ballads. Great reviews Sunrayvibe and Queen Of Funk, I couldn't be more specific! "Syn" may be my least fav Jam album, but still had some great songs on it. Be sure to check out my award show parody in my last post in "Music Of Jamiroquai" in the "awards" post! Thanks for listening and the usual props to CosmicMouse and Bear! Peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Yeah, I'm known for my premature reviews of albums,
but at least "Synkronized" had the a nice cover & back art!

2scratchchin Hmmm, this is a tricky one.

I instantly loved where do we go from here coz it's just so easy to get into.... but i'm really reluctant to name it as my fave synk track - sure, it's undeniable frothy fun but it's definitely not the best (nor the deepest) track the album has to offer...

I think stellar track status lies with Supersonic - its got a lovely hard edge to it, a sort of beautiful violence that bodes really well with my ears. 2listen

But saying that, elements of soul education really hit the spot too.

But yeah, for the quintessential synk experience, my vote goes out to Supersonic. There's really something very special about it.

Ooh, and I love the cover art for the single (2 jays for the price of one!) and the Pete Heller love mix is tops. I think a little part of me dies with happiness every time i listen to it 2goodvibes

I came up with this post, and I didnt want to miss the oportunity to tell you guys what I think of SYNKRONIZED:

First of all, like someone said, there is no worst Jamiroquai album. We dont have to give importance to what reviewers said about this album. It may not be as great as the three previous albums, but it was a big step they gave at experimenting new sounds, and they did it perfectly.

CANNED HEAT: Well... is what everybody thinks, a great great danceable song (but I have to say Im a little bit bored of it after so many listenings).
PLANET HOME: One of my favourite tracks on the album. Although `bring your advice along´ may sound as a GreenPeace advertisement, this song is brillant live.
BLACK CAPRICORN DAY: As it may sound as great Mr Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, I like this song, thats it. Nothing more to add (although I love the music when J sings `Its just too black for me´).
SOUL EDUCATION: It used to be one of my favourites, now Im kind of bored.
FALLING: Ah...I like this tune. So R&B and it may not be like Everyday or Half The Man, but is a nice track.
DESTITUTE ILLUSION: Well... My father loves this song (he says it sounds like Spectrum, of Billy Cobham) and I like it too, but at the minute 3, the drums section doesnt change at all, only a few sounds around the song. And it couldnt have a better starting: `You may think you`re in Heaven´, I just love that phrase. It could have been better.
SUPERSONIC: This is the track why I bought the album (Synkronized was the first one). The video and the song blew my mind at that time. And it still has something that makes me wanna dance. I pick this as my favourite track on the album (only that the lyrics...mmm.... I dont understand them yet).
BUTTERFLY: This is the other favourite song. Maybe in AFO would have been better crambled in the middle between COTE and LF (according to what Jamirofan2000 said about it doesnt fit).
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE: Nice funky tune. An example of what some people said that the only danceable track was CH, well this one is very similar to it and I dont know why Jay didnt do anything with this track (I think they never played it live!....not even a remix!).
KING FOR A DAY: This track is my mothers favourite Jamiroquai song. She just loves it!. I like it too and the best thing this song has is that is the last one from the album. A good idea like POML in AFO.

Bonus Tracks:
DEEPER UNDERGROUND: Maybe to heavy for the rest of Jamiroquai stuff, but it still has something nice. Maybe the lyrics?
GETINFUNKY: Those video-game sounds mmm......it would have been better without them.
WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING: Ahh...so much better!. I love this track. Great great great.

Well...thats what I think about Synkronized. And now I want to talk about the rest of the albums, so if you dont mind....
