Dynamite Sampler reviewed by D!
Hello Jamirotalkers supersonic black

Wow!! I am so excited!! OK, like I promised, I'm happy to announce that here's my review of the Dynamite Sampler (and great news at the end Wink )
Yesterday I attended to the Sony / BMG presentation of the advance of the new Jamiroquai album 'Dynamite' here in Buenos Aires, for fans, were I've been invited. It was raining a lot, so only 7 of 14 people were there (including my dad!!). Most of them, fans I already met, great people. The invitation wasn't made with much anticipation, that's why we were only 7 lucky people Smile
We enter to this conference room, and with a great sound system, a girl came with the sampler (exactly the same that David Rowe put on his site), saying that the single is 'Feels Just Like It Should', that radios heard it, and they already wanted the sampler to play it (after almost 4 years with the same JMQ songs!) but they couldn't, so we are expecting a lot of air play here by the most important radios.
We listened the 5 songs carefully, then the other girl asked us which were the songs we liked the most. And she played them again. Here's my review on the Dynamite Sampler (sorry, only a few lines on the lyrics, some of them I only heard them once, so that's what I barely remember):

Arrow 'Feels Just Like It Should': Most people heard it, is the same version, no edit, no extended one, the same. Sadly, the first single (I think is the weakest of the 5 songs).

Arrow 'Dynamite': My personal favorite (n° 1). Good stuff, people. Who said it was rock rock rock?? This is pure Jamiroquai disco music. Obviously, a great candidate for future single (radio stations said this too). It goes something like this: 'She's got dynamite', 'She's a dynamite'. 'Dynamite' 'Dynamite' ---> fading out. Great song!!!.

Arrow 'Seven Days In Sunny June': In the line of COTE and POML, but with more rhythm, the chill song of the album. With a few more listenings, it will turn out to be a very good one, I bet. It reminded me to 'Stillness In Time'.

Arrow 'Give Hate A Chance': My personal favorite (n° 2). Wow. That's all I can say, this one and 'Dynamite' are great great songs (don't lose your faith, trust me people). I can hear the difference the bass makes, giving a new feeling to each song (the bass sounds wonderful in this one) another great candidate for a single. And both are pretty long. I can already picure the live versions of this songs, extending the middle parts.... I'm very pleased.

Arrow 'Black Devil Car': In the line of FJLIS, this is not the same version that we heard in those 30 seconds. Those 30 seconds were not finished. I have to get used to this guitars. In the middle there's a part like a carrousel song, Jay singing (his voice is not that bad, I thought it was gonna be worst, but I don't know if it was the stereo or what, but I couldn't listen all the lyrics perfecfly like in 'Synkronized' for example, that's why I only wrote down few lyrics), and then the backing singers go 'Is just a love machine', 'Is just a love machine'. And a funny thing I noticed: when the part we heard appeared, the 'baby yeah' (before the chorus) is not there anymore! So those seconds are very valuable.

Overall: lots of backing singers (which sounds very good, not like Beverly Knight in the 'Main Vein' studio version), I didn't hear many horns section; all the songs fade out. I think is the logical step before AFO. There are elements of electronic music, sure, but now refreshed with rock elements as well, which doesn't sound that bad (don't worry, is not pop, is not heavy metal, surely is not Britney Spears! so you can sleep well). At the end of the meeting, we were all very satisfied. I thought I was going to leave with a sad face, but I didn't.
In case you're wondering, I didn't hear any elements from 'Cannabliss', 'Funk Odyssey' or 'Shoot The Moon'.

Protection: they asked us to leave our bags and stuff outside, so that we can't record anything for all the piracy that's been online (one of my pals had a recorder, but I think he couldn't do anything, although there was a cell phone, so when we left I didn't ask if they could record something). Behind the sampler, it said that it can't be played in pc's, Mac computers, so I think is pretty hard to copy it (but with all the technology around, I'm sure there's some way). But is definetely hard. It is numbered too, I think the number was 146.

Now, my good news. I'll be listening the master of the full album next week, around April 20th, along with the video. One thing is for sure, next time I'll see / hear something new, so 'stay tuned' LOL, that I'll tell you everything about 'Dynamite'.

Ahh!! This is so cool!! Leave your thoughts. groundflip

PS: I just read the reviews from Merlina and Abou!

ay ella, hace un thread propio! JAJAJAJA

Well, you got more experience here, you have taken your time, and made a complete review. I didn't pay that attention to the lyrics, because I was waiting for the music. That was our main concern, huh? Maybe next time I can record something...

buffaloman_B Hello, buffaloman_B

Very Happy Hmmm...cool, excellent review Diego, though I share Todd's sentiment, I'm green with envy as a naughty Cheeba Leaf Very Happy. Oh well, review pretty much has all the tidbits I was expecting, lots of synth, guitar rock and no trace of horns, hmmm looks like JK thinks he's Steven Tyler now or something. But the kicker is...Diego gets to hear the whole blooming album?!? Very Happy Oh god, that means we will have a tracklisting for "Dynamite" by NEXT WEEK Very Happy! Oh goodie, thanks again for the review D, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to dreaming of being a JamiroFan from Argentina. Peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Looks like everything's gonna turn out great after all...I saw another review of the sampler by Abou Moslem in this site, and what you said Diego was almost the same as his (weak first single, great future ones). Thanks, Diego, we appreciate it! Cool

I'm really happy for you mate, it's great to know that someone besides the record company executives get a private listening party Very Happy after reading the reactions from you and David, I feel a lot more excited about hearing this disc--especially if a track reminded you of 'stillness in time'! now for the official site relaunch...

Well, I'll paste it here, I think this will be a better place for my comments...

Well, long time since my last post but I'm back with hot news!
I'm just back from the meeting at Sony-BMG. There I met Diego, Merlina, Leti, Pablo and Liliana. We went to a "conference room" and the girl from the company showed us the sampler containing 5 tracks. I had a recorder in my bag but I had to leave it before entering the room , so I tried to record some audio with my cell phone but something odd happened, I ran out of memory and the resulting file was empty . The CD was in a envelope with a security sticker with an inscription like "If you received this CD with the broken sticker go find who gave it to you", very paranoid...

1. Feels Just Like It Should: What else can I say... It's a shame that they have chosen it as the first single. All the time I'm thinking on Lenny Kravitz... And that annoying vocoder... Maybe the time will make it more "hearable".

2. Dynamite: WOW!!! That track was amazing!!! It gave me hope back, very funky tune. You gotta hear it!

3. Seven Days In Sunny June: Hmm.... Quiet song, It reminded me "You Give Me Something" because of the corny lyrics. Anyway I liked it.

4. Give Hate A Chance: THE TRACK! This would be a perfect first single! Very disco groove, the bass is amazing, I'm going to cry!!!

5. Black Devil Car: I don't know what happened here. Rob Harris again with those headbanger riffs, the guitar is powerful. Not my kind of jamiroquai prefered song. THE BREAK! In the middle the song turns very quiet and peaceful, with jay singing just like in a lullaby... And then the guitar starts again.

Ah, the first track will be in rotation in argentine radios from this monday. the girl at sony told us the video will be available maybe next week or the other... and we'll have another meeting to listen to the full album!
