Matt Johnson - the new keyboardist of Jamiroquai
It's time to open a thread for Matt - (wow, that's a rhyme, he he!)
It is just one month ago that Toby has left the band and I can proudly tell you that I have already enjoyed Matt's virtuosity three times at live gigs! :D
I said in another posting, that he is doing a great job so far. But I am curious what influences he will take on the music of the next album.
Here we can collect all the information we will find about him. I can't wait for an interview, and maybe some day he will find the way to this forum. (...psst, Sola! Give him the key to this site! Pleeease!!!)
Ok, let's talk about Matt!!!

matt
I heart some recordings from the german concert...
he was good there, especialy in deeper underground, but all he did was to perform things toby have written or composed. I'll be happier when I'll hear him in a new song to see his writting\composing skills |

agreed, digin! i hope matt has his own style to contribute to the new jami record! if he obtains toby's style then certain jami veteran fans will say he's trying to be like Toby, just like the Nick & Stuart topic, inevitably leading to a silly & pointless disagreement. (which is NOT needed!)
:2goodvibes: I WISH MATT, THE BEST OF LUCK!!!!!! _________________ My heart is a pure sun and the sky is black, and I can feel cold steel when I turn my back, it stings like needles, with a jagged tongue, you know this scream reminds me, of when I was so young |

Hi Little M!
Welcome at jamirotalk.net!
I hope you are not kidding... ...and that you are telling the truth! Sounds fantastic!!!
I already registered Matt's name at this forum so that nobody can steal his name and fake his comments.
His username is: Matt Johnson
So, he is very welcome to say hello to his fans and he should ask Sola Akingbola for the password. After he once logged in, he can change the password to another one, if he wants.
Let's stay in contact, bring the man to this cosy place and let me know if there are any problems with the login, ok?
Jamirotalk to you soon! ;)
Cheers,
Meike (aka CosmicMouse)

well...
I have P.M.ed Little M, and asked him to pass a question to matt. here's my question and matt's answer:
| DIDGIN wrote: |
1) I have recently heard recordings from several live performances. it seems there's new keyboard melodies in the song "love foolosophy" did matt wrote them. they are really good. did he wrote the keys for the new song' canabliss, too?
2) is matt going to be the keyboardist of jamiroquai for good, or is it only for the currect tour? |
| Little M wrote: |
Matt says...
There are a few new melodies on Lovefool, I have added my own parts to a few of the songs to try and add my own influence to the music and not just play Toby's parts. The parts on Cannabliss were created by both myself and Simon.
As for being in the band permanantly... I will be for as long as I can help it
Take care, will hopefully be online with my own username soon.
Lol Matt. |

What fine ear you have Didgin! I'm getting envious.
I the sound of keyboards in Jamiroquai's music, but I would hardly be able to make the difference between older and newer parts. I'm not a musician.
Thanks to you and Little M for getting this very interesting information. _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

Matt plays a fantastic jazzy Herbie Hankock-style Rhodes solo on Travelling Without Moving from Montreux Jazz Festival 2002 (if you haven't cheked it yet, it's still on funkin.com). I think, this number is the one that proves he's a great keyboardist not only when it comes to playing Toby Smith parts, but also to contribute with someting new. |
