I just heard the concert from BBC Radio 1 -Big Weekend- and I can't help finding 'FJLIS' one of the worst lives I've ever heard. His voice sounds simply terrible, I thought I would never gonna say this, but I just hope is only because he had laryngitis or something like it.

About the other tracks, 'Space Cowboy' was beautiful in my opinion. 'Revolution 1993' was ok, although we can't expect something from what we've heard in 1994 cause there's no original member from that time (almost), but I liked it. 'Little L' it sounded like in the AFO era, except minor changes in the middle part. What I liked about 'Canned Heat' is that starts just like the album version. 'Alright' had some small sounds used in the 1997 tours, and not in the last one, which is a good thing. 'Love Foolosophy' was ok, like most of the versions they did until now. And 'Deeper Underground'... mm... I never really liked the live version of this song, sorry.

I totally agree, can't say it better Very Happy

matt jonshon's keys on space cowboy are fucking awful, if he gonna play album's solo (and he should) better if he does with the correct notes, not with that horrible noise! if he still plays like that i will throw him something in the next concert....

I couldn't agree more man, when I hear that synth come in at 2:00 I felt like stabbing myself. Matt needs to take some notes from Toby. A lot of the singing was pretty awful in that concert.. yuck. I'm pissed. Fuck the new Jamiroquai. This is undoubtedly the worst Space Cowboy version I've ever heard. Rolling Eyes Jay Kay destroyed himself and what used to be an amazing band. Crying or Very sad I'm so sad! Jamiroquai don't play the songs the way I want them to...they don't release the singles I want them to release, they don't sound like they sounded 10 years ago! hell, JK can't even sing with larangitis and the only concert we've heard didn't sound like the best ever...

THIS IS THE END! THEY'RE NOW THE WORST BAND IN THE WORLD AND MATT NEEDS LESSONS !

A revolutionary new form of therapy is out there for you:
"Shut the Fuck Up, by Doctor Denis Leary"
Arrow I'm gonna have my patients come in. "Doctor, I.." "Shut the fuck up, next!" "I don't feel so.." "Shut the fuck up, next!" "He made me feel so much better about myself, you know? He just told me to shut the fuck up and nobody had ever told me that before. I feel so much better now." Whining fucking maggots.

PS - I'm not being disrespectful, I'm just saying you need to chill, really!

Not being disrespectful? So what then, it was a lame attempt at being funny? Excuse me for not liking their new sound, it's quite awful in my ears. It's not just the live performance, but all of the new material I've heard with the exception of Seven Days in Sunny June. In any event, the material put out 10 years ago was far better then anything they've done lately. It's just rather disappointing to see my favorite band turn to shit. Hope you enjoy DYNAMITE Melo D. Rolling Eyes

Edit: By the way, it's laryngitis and where is your source of him having it during the concert? Seems to just be wishful thinking. Wink

2nd Edit: I decided to make a little comparison file of the newest live performance of Space Cowboy compared to the amazing version from 1994. I think it helps show why I have such a problem with what they're doing now. Pay attention to the singing at first, and later the synth sound and bass playing. Matt's pitch bending technique isn't good at all and the synth sample is horrid. At the end it shows how the band used to be able to groove for extended periods of time with true musicianship. I'm sorry so many of you think their new work is so acceptable. 2pessimist

You're entitled to your opinion! I'm just saying that judging Jamiroquai's future and present based on one 6 track open air concert where Jay did in fact have laryngitis(check the newspapers, radio news) is not very fair. It's just the beggining, the album isn't even out yet, the tour hasn't officially started...this is just the warm up race before the championship...

I'll probably will like Dynamite cause I'll listen for what it is not for what I'd want it to be, or dream it to be...
You already a predefinition in your mind of what you'll hear: even if it's good I think you won't like it...
I think some fans are so obsessed with the old sound that if in Dynamite they did just another story they would call it pop
Laughing

In fact, I never see them praise DILWUTD, at least not enough

Peace

Again, you're saying I'm only judging this on the live show, that's not correct. Their songs in general now just aren't very appealing -- I can't stand Feels Just Like it Should or Eletric Mistress. It's repetitive and boring. It's not that they have to have their old sound as much as I just don't like what they do now. And no, I would not call Just Another Story pop if it were to be redone in any way. See, that's the point, I'm not just some blind fanboy who will say he likes whatever they throw me; I like to analyze and interpret music.

you two cool out. Opinions are all welcome here. Having said that the laryngitis story came straight from the horse's mouth, Jason Kay and the sound of his voice makes me believe it. But then again, you are entitled to your opinion.

ALSO- we all need to reserve judgment on the new album until its released in June. Diego and Abou posted some reviews of the work on the official release board, so go check them out if you haven't Phil. Maybe you'll change your mind on what you can expect from Dynamite. The new sound seems to work overal and i'd guess that just as there are a lot of people who yearn for the old sound to be revived, BUT if all six albums sounded like RotSC, there would be just as many complaints from another faction of people who got bored with that particular sound. The fact of the matter is, never will we be 100% content as a fan base. Just wait until June 21 (13th or 20th, if you're elsewhere in the world).

Re: Matt Johnson's keyboard technique

I think it's a little extreme to hate on Matt just because you didn't like his playing on that quintessential J track, Space Cowboy. You really have to ignore everything else he's done on tour with Jamiroquai to lay that kind of criticism on him. Toby definitely figured less prominently in live performances during the 90's than Matt does today (due mostly to changes in instrumentation), and I think Matt has shown himself fully up to the task.

Re: Jamiroquai, 2005 vs 1995
I agree that Feels Just Like it Should (or the studio version of Little L) is nowhere near the quality of no Space Cowboy, but I honestly think (and hope!) the rest of Dymanite will represent an improvement.

i don't judge him for his playing in one song, maybe he plays good the keys, and he does, is just that i don't like how it does, most of the solo's in all the concerts he did (and i heard a lot) are not good and i dislike them, that's all.
and from my part i never said i hate jamiroquai, or anything like that, i'm still one of the biggest fans from them, but i feell the right of apllaude for the things i like and to say what i don't.

oh calm down people!
this is a discussion forum, why don't you share your opinions without insulting? there's a point. sunderland was one of the first gigs of the band after a couple of years of silence. there are changes, the band is not the same, nick went out , we don't know paul turner too much and he didn't play in the recording of the album...

I'm sure the band will improve their following acts, the new album is great and I liked almost all of the songs (well, except fjlis and a surprise on beatbox). when I listened to it, I was imagining the live versions and all of them sounded very promising.

personally I hate that version of space cowboy they performed last sunday, because of the silly keyboard and that backing vocals section that seems having to participate on every track, the new ones, the classic ones... but I loved all the rest of the oldies!

I like Matt's work, in the beginning (just like in the early Nick's days) I used to compare him with Toby, but they're different! What can we expect? Copycats? Also, we don't know his songwriting...

I can't judge the present and the future of the band just because they modified a classic track and jay wasn't at his best.
