jamirokaki's review of the new album
this album is what so many of you it's been waiting for long time, it's not a coming to the roots of jamiroquai, it's a new evolution, but this time i'm sure everyone will love it, it's a quality album with lots of surprises.
last to albums got great tunes but specially on a funk odyssey i noticed a simplification of the beats, maybe to get more audible for everyone, this time Derrick and Sola shows more about they're playing skills, Derrick really plays incredible things this time, some brass and strings arrangements wich are so cool are added, and so much of vacking vocals wich are in danger to turn in lead vocals, all this is probably done because Jay's voice is quite touched, it's clearly his worst voice in all the albums (this don't means it's bad, but it's not as good as it used to be) and also probably to (as i already said) fill the departure of Toby, wich is quite noticeable in the whole albums melodys.
also its remarkable the work of the bassplayers wich is so good in the whole album, basslines tunred even funkyer in this album and that gives a ver very nice sound to most of the songs.
reviewed song by song you will notice that the album doesn't haves any low point, it's a great and balanced album.

(now if you are one of those waiting to get all the surprises when listening to the album, don't read more, but you have to know that i'l only write what i think and how the songs are (with my poor vocabulary) and this is nothing comparing with listening to the song)

feels just like it should: we all already know this song, it haves that dark new middle on it wich reminds a little to deeper underground, maybe the worst track on the album but maybe a good choice for first single as i defended on the other topic of this forum http://www.jamirotalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2737

dynamite: a cool disco song, transitions from different parts are quite extrange, and it haves retro-futuristic arrangements (80's kind of), the song really hooks you as it's like a classic disco tune but with the inimitable jamiroquai label

seven days in sunny june: most of you also know it, perfect for the summer listenings, it mix jamiroquai's last groovy style like you give me something with funky synths and acoustic guitar, those kind of songs you can't keep out from your head

electric mistress: also an already known song, completely out form jami's style and from any other tune released before, you will love if you like house music, it's an extrange song and the chorus melody of the "intruments" is really rare, but it works, some cool piano touches, and some bad piano touches on it...

starchlid: this song is one of the best on the album, another funky/disco tune, very nice and funky strings, in fact all the instruments sounds really funky, keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, percussion, and also some kind of brass there

love blind: when i listened to the sample i thought it has a quite extrange transition from musical style, but now, listening to the whole song i can understand it, it mixes so many styles and it's great, regular jami style, then deeper undergroundish style and then back again, and a beautifull jazzy surprise wich i already love. a total experimental and extrange track.

talulah:this track is awesome! soooo sweet and warm, as said before it may sound a little (or a lot) like everyday or falling but this ones goes further, the sax there is so good, it's really like an evolution of everyday, viewed from another point dunno maybe some sting or sade touch. also notice that is the longest track on the album(6:04)

(don't) give hate a chance: another disco tune, powerful funky bassline and wicked guitars, again sad that theres no a master keyboard player to put the vibe on

world that he wants:some said it's boring, but i don't feel so, it's a very good tune, a kind of spend a lifetime and black crow joint, sad feelings but beauty sounds of piano and violins, a great original soundtrack

black devil car: this track is mad! Derrick really goes cool (and crazy) in this one, he plays like ever did before, the song haves total experimental sound, with a kind of rock'n roll 2005 sound.

hot tequila brown: the only tune that have dissapointed me after listening to the sample, i tought that it was to be one of my favs but it fails, the idea is good but it falls in a flat song at the end (the lyrics doesn't)

time won't wait: great one! funky , great percussion and bass, and theres some brass here too.

i still can't understand why matt always play "touh touh" noises here and there in some tracks like in this one and not good solos or lines, he don't gives anything to the music. sad

here is it, my review on jamiroquai's dynamite. i give it 7.5 points from 10. i think it's far better than AFO and synkronized, and close to TWM but only close, it don't beat it.
i can't talk about the lyrics as i harldy understand them only listenings to the songs.

long time without posting...

The album is greatest that I though. Hearing FJIS I thought this will be a bad album but I think is great...I think the more you listen to it the more you like it...

My favs are Talulah, Dynamite & Give hate chance. Starchild is great too...the only ones that don´t convince me are Loveblind & FJIS...Black Devil Car has surprised me in a positive way.

Finally, i would say that the live version of SDISJ is better than the album one. Just my opinion.

Thanks to jamirokaki for the help Wink

I had the chance to get the complete album... probably the last time I will post on the forum as from today I'm not a Jamiroquai fan anymore (I'm very upset about that, but what I heard today is too much for me...)

01- Feel Just Like It Should : no comment, I already erased it as I don't cope with that song anymore, after 4 times I've heard it, if there was not Electri Mistress on the album I would say FJLIS is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard from Jamiroquai... but there's Electric Mistress...

02- Dynamite : What the fuck is that elctronic stuff in the intro ? One can wait some good stuff after the intro... but nothing happens, the bass line is the same from the beginning to the end, is there some piano on that track ?? Percussions ? Mmmm I can't hear that... Only background bloody vocals and Jay's voice with the nowadays usual effects... Wow, what a rythm ! Sorry I've to skip it cause I'gonna fall asleep

03- Seven days in sunny June : nice song, one of the rares I like... Oh, yes, Jay couls have probably avoid to talk still about some love stuff in all the songs but it's ok, I can just listen to the music... u never gave me time to say I love u... I know u won't believe me but it's so true... oh come on Jay, stop it !! You already made Little L, Love Foolosophy, U give me something, Butterfly, Where do we go from here, Falling... stop it !!!!
Oh I also want to congratulate Mr. Matt Johnson for his amazing solo... wtf Matt !!! Wake up and do the stuff you know ! And stop doing those ridiculous beats and hit during space cowboy and revolution !! You and Rob completely ruin those songs !

04- Starchild : another nice one, what a shame for those background vocal, all the album has the same sound... were not they supposed to use several bass player to give different sonorities ?mmmm...

05- Oooops I forgot Electric Mistress... yeah just becasue I erased that one too... shit this track is compeltely rubbish, what the hell with those bells ??? Are we going in a church ??

06- WOOOOOOOOW Love blind !!!! This is another stupid song with Mr. Rob Harris doing what he knows how to do better : rocking and annoying people with his awful riffs everywhere, did he have some problems with the guitar at the beginning of the song ? Electronic and rock... wow, W Jamirockwai !! sorry I arrived at the middle part, I have to skip, my hears can't cope with it...

07- Talulah : wow that's an original song :"She's gone away... she won't be back again, I still love u..." AGAIN WITH YOUR LOVE STUFF ??? But, is it possible Jay that you cannot find someone to stay with and talk about other stuff in your songs ?? Nice ballad though but I prefer Robbie Williams in that kind of songs Jay !

08- Give Hate A Chance : the electronic beat at the beginning was already make me think about skipping this one too but hopefully the rest of the song is quiet nice, except the lovely "ouuuuuuuuuuuuuu" sang by my prefered vocalist and the keyboard doing "pupupu pupu pupupu!!!" What a shame u copied the well known Starlight chorus... what was your best quality (originality) really seems to have disappeared..

09- World that he wants : Is that some kind of spend a Lifetime cover ?? Finally a song with Jay's natural voice, but it sucks... skip...

10- Oh, here is the master piece of the album : BLACK DEVIL CAR : ok, another rock song, without anything particular... Jay, u could ha avoid your "Can't u see me overtaking... and She's just a love machine !" Those who didn't have "the chance" to hear that wonderful song will have a shock at 2'09" OMG, I can't believe what I hear !!! HAHAHAHAHAHHA "uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" Are there the Backstreet Boys around in the studio ??? Seems Jay is crying from desperation... Is there because he doesn't have nothing left to say in music industry ?? could be... Jay, u have a serious problem I guess...

11- Hot Tequila Brown : wow, incredible but I like it (in comparison with the rest of the album obviously) HAHAHAHA just heard the gun's shots !! HAHAHAHAHAHAH U definitely have a serious problem Jay ! Loooooooooooooooooooooool Is that a joke mate ? U did this album to make us laught or what ? Are u gonna release the real one and make us a surprise ???

12- Time won't wait : Congratulations... the ony real interesting stuff on the album !!!

Ok, time to go, the album is crap really, obviously from a musician point of view, who used to like what Jamiroquai did in the past ! Nothing really to say... I didn't feel any shiver listening to that stuff, that was the last chance for you to do something good again... don't think your old fans will follow u in that stuff and support u forever mate ! You want the money ? Continue to give credit to fucking Sony and don't take any brass on your stuff, you became a real star now ! A disco star Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
Have been a pleasure listening to your stuff for so long... will keep on with the 4 first album... Cheers

Christophe

Right. Did I sense some small negative vibes in Christophes review? :> Okay, a different point of view at least.

I finally also got the album from cdon.fi and have had some time today finally to listen to the complete package quite many times.

As for the lyrics that Christophe critisized, most of the songs in this world that exist, talk about love. One way or another. If there would not be love songs, then what? Political? Environment? "you have nice clothes, I wanna buy some Burberry too"?, song about cats and dogs? about drinking apple juice or eating jogurt? come on Smile Let the blind love carry it's mysterious ways!

I personally like this album very much. A big improvement after AFO. Far from EOPE or ROTSC but why to compare so much. This is the Jamiroquai of today and this album has great melodies, nice basslines, a lot of groove & disco, some rock and some experimental elements. Some stuff maybe a bit too much produced and flat-sounding but also moments of full sounding amazement. And this is also from a point of view of a musician!

FJLIS, after first thinking it is a crap song - after about 100 listenings, it has grown and is a very tight song. The weakest link for this album I think is the title track Dynamite. A bit too repeatitive and I'm a bit bothered of it. But still, it is listeneable. All the other tracks are just amazing. The best highlights for me are hard to say, a bit of Starchild, Time Won't Wait, Black Devil Car, Talullah.. very enjoyable! Smile

Jay's singing is moderate. The backing singers take the lead somewhere, which is mainly okay but at times I got a feeling that Jay is left behind with a weaker voice.

Great drumming and the strings-arrangements are fabulous. I would preferred the brass to be a bit louder in Time Won't Wait.

Just enjoy! :>

No mate, I wish I had listened to a different one but I didn't...
No problem about that, I just hate it ! and I'm very very sad... cause I've listening to them for more than 10 years now ! And seeing Jay being so ridiculous (because this is what he is) don't make me laugh at all.
What a shame... he was so exclusive and became so ridiculous...

Hahahaha Jamirokaki ! What are u mate ? Mr' Jay Kay defender ?? HAHAHA... U make me laught ! When someone don't like the new Mr. Jay Kay u get nervous don't you ?

Wow a triangle !!! exciting really !!! It's better in that way, Sola can't save time not taking the rest of his percussion equipment ! I guess he is very satisfied about what he plays on it... I think I will buy myself a triangle so I can master THE ARTS OF PERCUSSION !!

As for Mr. Robbie Williams, being fan of Mr. Jay Kay u should know that he hates Robbie Williams, that's why I mentionned him, can u get it ? It'a J.O.K.E.

Anyway I didn't expect from you to be agree with me... actually seeing ur avatar, I guess you believe yourself a Jay Kay hahaha !
