14.07.2005 - Modena - Pictures & Review
See the pictures I made from my brand new web repository here:
http://funkydonkey.altervista.org
The story starts this way: I was out of the venue at 18 o'clock waiting to enter and I saw a man coming in my direction, I wasn't sure but thought he was Derrick McKenzie ...and when he became nearer I noticed the pass !!! I stopped him, unbelieveable! and he signed my album!!!! I also tryied to convince him to play Talullah in the evening but he laughed and I had no results. What an experience!
I had a meeting with two guys from the jamirosite and the officiale forum, Niccolò AKA Il Rifugiato and Claudia AKA Nemesi, you can see a pic of us after the gig.
At 21.30 was time to party , the band went on stage with the lights off and kicked Canned Heat (what a huge start!) then lights on! and Mr.Jay Kay came in jumping dressed up the same way as in the Festivalbar appearance: purple hat and black suit. The crowd became mad when Space Coboy stared, this was the highest moment of the whole gig, I really really like the brand new backing vocals added in the breakdown and what Matt does during the song...wicked! I also like the moddings on Little L and Cosmic Girl, the same as in the Sunderland performance(...you can check out the bootleg if you don't know what I mean) "She's just a cosmic girl...she came to me from another world" We also were pleased from tracks of the past: MrMoon (one of my favourites!) with Paul Turner slappin' and popping madly and...and....and...TRAVELLIN' WITHOUT MOVING!!! I didn't noticed it on the first bars when they started to play, the song was really deeply modifyed but when I realized...OH MY GOD!!!! Hey, there was a brand new bass solo...this new man really rocks! On Love Foolosophy there was the classic competition of solos of Derrick and Sola I must say I didn't like Music of the Mind, I don't know why but the new version doesn't turn me on. Stuff from the new album: Starchild (great!), Seven days in sunny June (really love this one), Feels Just Like it Should that was really funky in the live version and Dynamite that was actually amazing. This is one of my favourites tracks of the new album and live it gets huge energy ... the girls on the backing vocals gave massive contribute!
Jay recevied during the show two roses (see the pic here) from crazy girls (...wish to play his role sometimes ) and a banner from Claudia "I don't want the world I want you!" Jay said something against Bush and kicked Emergency on planet Earth ...what a song, time to boogie!!!! I can't remember the exact order but the band played Use the Force, Alright, Corner of the Earth, Virtual Insanity, Revolution 1993 (!!!).
On encore time Jay came on the stage with a light sabre, it was really really funny! (ther's a tiny movie in my site) He spreaded his light sword in the darkness and then was time for Deeper Underground ...everybody in the crowd was jumping and screaming loud!
The bad bad notes:
I saw people with a strage green pass during the gig and noticed It was an AFTER SHOW pass. You can imagine I would like to have one of them so asked the security that said the pass came home by post from the OFFFICIAL FANCLUB. I know that doesn't exist any fuckin' european fanclub ...at least I don't think the pass were coming form the Japan one! _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

This is soooooo cool Rinaldo!!! You're so lucky! And you heard COTE live! ! Great review BTW !
And darling... don't feel bad because of those people who got the after show pass, after all... you met Derrick on your own, which is far much better than to go with a group, where they all "share" the members of the band, don't you think? (at least that's my oppinion) Bye Rinaldo, love you! _________________
