WTHW and it's links to G.W. Bush.
hello fellow funksters.
i listened to World That He Wants for the first time in full and uninterrupted today, and i think that i can safely (and accurately) say that the song is a protest song squarely aimed at either of these people:
1. George W. Bush.
2. George W. Bush and Tony Blair
3. George W. Bush, Tony Blair and John Howard
4. George W. Bush, Tony Blair, John Howard and Stuart Zender
i wish to announce that the fourth option was inserted for humourous purposes. but i am going for either the 1st option or the 2nd one.
as you may know, Li'l J obviously doesn't like George Dubya (or even Tony Blair). but this song bashes up The President of the Largely Unified States of the Central Part Of North America. let's analyse the lyrics:
| In the song World That He Wants, Jay wrote: |
Why does this man
Defy the storm and burn us al |
The man: George W. Bush
The storm: The majority opinion of the world (remember the riots in the UK and Australia regarding the 2003 invasion of Iraq?)
| In the song World That He Wants, Jay wrote: |
Each time his hand waves
The sun it sets on lonely graves |
The hand belongs to: Dubya.
The people in the lonely graves: The soldiers (in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.).
| In the song World That He Wants, Jay wrote: |
Haven't we read this page before
We're gonna lose the war |
The page before: The Vietnam War. The US invaded to fix the problems of what it viewed as "a threat of communism on the US people".
The war: Iraq.
| In the song WTHW, Jay wrote: |
Put down the glory flag
Nothing will be the same |
The glory flag: The US flag.
What won't be the same?: The state of the world (and oil prices )
| In the song WTHW, Jay wrote: |
This is the world he wants
Pray for the brave and the young
It won't bring them back again |
He is G.W. Bush. The brave and the young are the young people (both men and women) of the Coalition of the (un)Willing. And, as he indicates, It won't bring them back again.
| In the song WTHW, Jay wrote: |
Stillness you know that it reigns supreme
And suffocates our only dream |
I can't really see anything in this line, but maybe it's that America has to be fighting to keep the general public occupied?
| In the song WTHW, Jay wrote: |
No birds sing here
They've flown away
They didn't even say
When they'd be back again |
Where are these birds located?: In Iraq, maybe. But they have flown away now.
| In the song WTHW, Jay wrote: |
Unleash the hounds of hell
Whip up the fury wind
Hidden inside his dome |
The hounds of hell: Could be the people of the world who don't want this pointless war to continue.
The fury wind: Could be the same as above, but also could be the media, who have been called the fury wind.
Who's in the dome?: GWBush, obviously.
Where is this dome?: Could be the Congress building in Washington DC, or the White House.
well, there you have it. probably the most comercially-available anti-Bush song there is available. and given that "The Rolling Stones" have been given quite a bit of media coverage regarding their weak anti-Bush song on their newly released album, this song will draw either widespread appeal or widespread disrepute in the 'States if released as a single, which I think it will be.
trust me, this setup that Jay (and the whole marketing department in Sony) has organized will click together. |

I think it's about the stillness of the people, they know what's happening there but they simply ignore those facts or do nothing to stop it. The dream of freedom is being suffocated. (how corny I can be!) _________________

Hello Talkers,
Interesting Pietro! Thanks for that 'Song review'. Although it could've been a better an ending like 'Black Crow' (not so slow), the song says what many of us think. I just feel that is didn't have the controversy we hoped.

Abou,
A solid number of people are attempting (and succeeding) in bringing the war to the forefront. A mother who lost her son in Iraq has protested along with a growing number of supporters on President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas while he's on vacation from Washington. A recent poll are showing that 57% of the U.S. believe that the war has made them less protected from terrorism . Republican congressmen that used to be on Bush's side are beginning to talk with Democrats about creating propositions on timetables to bring back our troops--if not for the troops' sakes, but for their own.
2006 is our congressional elections, where the states vote on their representatives...right now, the Republicans (mostly pro-war) have the majority in all three branches of our government. However, with the increasing number of casualties in Iraq as well as the increased pressure from senators and the anti-war crowd, growing numbers of conservative congressmen are getting nervous--those people think if Bush doesn't find a good exit strategy soon, they'll lose their seats to the "liberal" Democrats in the elections thanks to a public that's sick of the war. A Congress that's currently "Republican red" could go "Democrat blue".
I don't agree with some of the anti-war stuff...but they are people here that aren't sitting around. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now.
