Hurricane Katrina...donate if you can...
Hello,
I take it that all fans have either witnessed or seen the devastation that Hurricane Katrina has caused to the gulf states here in America. I think all fans agree to the following: We all send our condolences to the families whom lost loved ones in this tragedy in the hardest hit areas of Mississippi, Alabama & Louisiana, and we pray for all the refugees who lost their homes and hope everything works out for them. The uncontrollable looting that is taking place in the closed off city of New Orleans is wrong and should be promptly stopped when the proper authorities can arrive. If you would like to contribute money or goods to Hurricane Katrina fund and help the survivors out, I have already donated money and some perishable goods, you can donate to the following TRUSTED charities:
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS: http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-donate2/
FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency): http://www.fema.gov/
THE SALVATION ARMY: http://www.salvationarmy.org
I hope you can help out, in any way, I know it would be greatly appreciated by all. Thank you for listening and for donating in any way you can. Peace!
Sincerely,

Hello again,
Ivy, I'm taking about the "Widespread looting", now if it's looting for basic essentials to survive by people, then that's ok in my book. It's the "massive looting" of all shops and businesses within in the New Orleans metropolitan areas that I strongly disagree with. I mean looting of that variety can always lead to fights, violence and other scary situations. There are other things that contributed to making this tragedy even WORSE: The local government officials not having a set plan for a future hurricane emergency plan in place for this category of hurricane (In some reports I read, Louisana & Mississippi had only a emergency preparedness up to a Category 3 and below Hurricane!), so far early snafus of Bush Administration in responding to this with nothing but surveys of damage, endless meetings of planning to the CURRENT situations & trying to raise more funds by having Bush Senior and Clinton heading up the nations donation funds, then couple with that the American "Tabloid" media coverage of this, Fox News being the BIGGEST cause of the unrealistic media standard that other perfectly good media outlets have stooped to imitating (Not covering the "real story" about how this could have been partially prevented and saved more lives and just sticking to showing the "misery" and "dispair" of the refugees and victims of the Hurricane!), then things get worse and worse, more anger is spread around and emotions become frayed. Sorry for that, just alot of thoughts have been swirling in my head, but I would like to thank you for sharing your thoughts Ivy. Thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,

this brief seems a little more congruent with what Atlanta people with families that are still in New Orleans are saying. The whole spin the gov here has taken with looting is disgraceful. People should of been evacuated before things EVER came to this point. the birthplace of jazz will never be the same |

Hello again,
I luckly FINALLY got in contact with several old friends in the New Orleans area via a borrowed cellphone, and they are fine, but very dehydrated, unbathed and very unhappy. They are fine, but they have been through hell, no sanitation, no bottled water, and what seems like no direction on where to go from local and federal government officials, they are fine now just to let you know, they are boarding buses to Atlanta to stay with family. I mean, they JUST had a convoy of relief supplies arrive in New Orleans at the Astrodome TODAY, where the hell was the relief for the last 4 days! The American Government and State Governments in my view haven't done ENOUGH to help out the nearly 1 million misplaced refugees, all I have seen Bush doing is surveying the damage to all 3 states from plane, go into endless preparation meetings to help out the current situation and promise IMMEDIATE ACTION...from all I have seen in our "tabloid-ridden" American Media...it has been as SLOW as a turtle in most of those states. New Orleans itself is out of control, random fires have been set, armed thugs roam the streets, and looting continues unabated, though the National Guard and US Military (What's left of them that aren't in Iraq) have arrived on the scene. I will keep you all updated on the situation, thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,

That National Geographic aritcle is/was pretty sobering. Good link Tahoe.
Im contributing a $100 through my work. Since I work for a big pharmaceutical conglomerate (lol), whatever I contribute, they will match it 100%. So when I give $100, they will match that $100. They also did it for the Tsunami relief last year/earlier this year. It's absoutlely devastating what happened in that area of the U.S. It will take years to replace.
Im so happy Jamiroquai is coming through the U.S. with a tour, and Im taking a whole week off to see them a few times, yet any good news is kinda buzz killed because of Katrina. _________________ Wouldn't 'ya like... To walk the sunny avenues of life? |

Hi everyone - Love that Search button! Anyway, 8/29 is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. There's still so much to be done, but a friend of mine is conducting this little distraction for her kids that went through this with her when the Hurricane came through their home. Besides this, she does a lot to help those around her - a whole lot. Thankfully her house wasn't damaged as bad as the others, but she's still helping to rebuild her community and those around her. She did have to vacant for some time, but is back home..Anyway, if you could do this for me - I'd appreciate it. Cards from across the world would be really dope. Any questions, please PM me. This is a posting from Renee - I'm just reposting it here. Thanks much, DD

I need y'all's help please
August 29 will be the first anniversary of hurricane katrina
we have gotten used to what people here call "the new normal" and have taken a few trips to help overcome some of the emotional issues everyone here in the "broken world" suffers from.
so I am worried about the anniversary and how it will bring back up bad stuff for my kids.
I have been talking to friends and came up with an idea that requires your assistance
please send them post cards
ones that show your home town or where you are visiting
write them a hello note too!
I thought it would be a great distraction for them to see pictures of other places and stamps from other countries
so if you would, please send a card to
Busyone and Thing1
PO Box 55483
Metairie, LA
USA 70055-5483
the post office has their nicknames so no last name is needed
(a safety thing being this is on the internet for the world to read)
I am going to collect them up and put them in colorful boxes so each one will have a box to open and then can keep them safe for looking at again later.
ask your friends to help too
the more the merrier!
thanks for your help!

One year anniversary today. Watching the coverage again, I am sad that I didn't go down there and do something directly. All good...
