Glasgow!!! 8th Sept 2005
Okay, so for the first time in 4 years I went to see Jamiroquai play up in the SECC in Glasgow last night, and it was the best concert I've ever seen! I just felt I had to write a small review to remember this awesome night
The Sony Ericsson sponsership was a pretty big thing, with people wearing white and orange buffaloman t-shirts and handing out buffaloman postcards all over the place. They played parts of the FJLIS and SDISJ videos over the screens in the hall while promoting their phone as well. There was lots of good Jami merchandise, a few Dynamite t-shirts and long sleeved t-shirts, the silver buffalomen keyrings, lithograms of the album covers, bags (which are really nice), and the best of all: the Jamiroquai tracksuit top, made be Slazenger and costing a massive £75!
As mentioned before, the support was coming from El Presidente, a rock band (actually from Scotland) who seemed a slightly odd choice as support. They were pretty good, but the sound quality was terrible and parts of their songs were drowned out by noise and bass. It didn't take long for the crew to set up for Jamiroquai, and 15 minutes later the band came on stage to a deafening cheer! The setlist was as follows:
Intro: "Theme From Enter The Dragon" by Lalo Schifrin
Canned Heat
Space Cowboy
Cosmic Girl
Revolution 1993
Little L
Seven Days In Sunny June
Love Blind
Use The Force
Love Foolosophy
Time Won't Wait
Black Capricorn Day
Dynamite
(Don't) Give Hate A Chance
Virtual Insanity
Alright
Deeper Underground (encore)
No Starchild, FJLIS or BDC...and I'm not 100% sure of the order.
At the start of the concert Jay announced he was gonna play "some songs from the new album" (cheers), "and some of the old songs, the classics!" (huge cheers!)
When Jay announced Little L, it sounded like he said "A f**k oddessy"
Love Blind really wasn't very good in my opinion. The quiet bits were too loud and the chorus was indistiguishable from the original. It didn't seem to go down very well, which was the only time I felt that during the night.
Jay was happy to be back in Scotland and said he was going to stay here tonight
At one point Jay said he should take the front few rows around Europe to act as the permanent front row!
When Jay intorduced the band, he said "without them there would be no Jamiroquai". Aww...
When Derrick was introduced, Jay made sure to point out that his ancestors were Scottish and got him to show off his kilt. Needless to say he got the biggest cheer of the bandmembers!
Before Black Capricorn Day, Jay said "I've had a few of these" (I thought they were about to play High Times) and said he was confused how it got released in the first place. He also said the video was filmed in Scotland.
Before Virtual Insanity, Jay said he was going to play another old song, and also said that the ones they'd played were the only ones he can remember!
The crowd went CRAZY during Virtual Insanity, and this lasted until the end of the concert
The band appeared to play part of Main Vein at one point, before moving off into the next song.
The most important thing of all was how focused Jay was of putting on the best show he possibly could. Last time he was over here in 2001 he was constantly smoking and swearing between songs, wheras this time he did neither and was much more enjoyable and comfortable to watch. Now that he's stopped drugs and cut down on alcohol, the results really are noticible. And his voice, WONDERFUL! The rest of the band were really tight as well, and were working together better than last time when they were all at opposite ends of the stage to one another.
OVERALL: The best concert ever! _________________

thats mad, no starchild, BDC or FJLIS, and only 1 day from playing them so excellently, i would of thought he would have dropped love blind for one of them as it was a bit dodgy,
some of the comments i rember him saying along the same lines, but i was that much in a dase dancing and singing like i said in my review can not remember!!!!!!
Thanks, interesting to see other reviews

Thanks for the great review Moonshooter
When I saw the review in the Herald I was shocked to read that the Glasgow concert was only half filled? Was that true?
Anyway seem to have been a great evening for you and the crowd _________________

No problem guys
And monisum, the place was definately more than half full! The side seating was closed off, but I don't think it was intended to be used in the first place. Just another journalist overeaction I guess _________________
